Jeffrey Alan Nicely-age 49 of Maynardville passed away suddenly Monday morning, October 2, 2017 in Knoxville. Preceded in death by parents, James Austin and Mary Ann Nicely; sister, Donna Lynn Tharp.

Survivors: son, Jacob Alan Nicely; daughter, Katie Nicely; grandson, Braxton Lee Smith; nephews, Cody and Joshua Tharp, Eric Nicely.

Randolph H. "Ranny" Turner

Randolph H. “Ranny” Turner-age 82 of Maynardville passed away Monday morning, October 2, 2017 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was a member and deacon of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Hazel and Hattie J. Turner; brother, Edward Turner; sisters, Anna Mae Turner, Faustine Dukes, Waywona Johnson; great-grandson, Sylas Richardson.

J. C. Hill

Jesse “J. C.” Hill – age 74 of Maynardville, born in Luttrell, Tennessee May 13, 1943, went home to meet his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ early Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center after a short illness. J. C. was a long standing member of Warwick’s Chapel Baptist Church where he gave his heart to the Lord at age 11 on November 28, 1954. He served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and loved the Lord and his church family. He was a graduate of HMHS class of ’62. J. C.

Joe Thomas Funderburk

Joe Thomas Funderburk, age 69, passed away September 23, 2017 after a long illness. He was born on March 25, 1948 in Charlotte, North Carolina and was currently residing in Knoxville, Tennessee and employed by Beverly Steel for the past 15 years. Joe enjoyed outdoor activities and visiting Cade’s Cove with friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Kenny Funderburk; son, Kip Funderburk.

Charlie E. Cox

Charlie Edward Cox-age 77 of Maynardville passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at home. He was a member of Pennington Chapel Baptist Church and a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Preceded in death by wife, Margie Louise Cox; son, Joey Edward Cox; parents, Porter and Roberta Cox; brother, Billy Joe Cox.
Survivors: son, Timothy Scott Cox; granddaughters, Brandi Hope Cox and Taylor Buckner; sisters, Dovie Smith, Mickie Nicley, Kathy Jones; brothers, James Edward Cox and Robert Earl Cox. Several nieces and nephews.

Jerry Douglas Hughett, Jr.

Jerry Douglas Hughett, Jr. age 51 went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 26, 2017 after a long illness. Jerry was a member of Sunnyview Baptist Church, which he loved and considered to be extended family. Preceded in death by father, Jerry D. Hughett Sr.; grandmother, Katherine Hughett; uncle, Van A. Hughett. Jerry leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 22 years, Christi; cherished children, Kaylie and Van; special aunt, Linda Thomas; brother, Jeff Hughett, and many other loving family and friends. Family will receive friends 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m.

Thelma Burchett Bolton Massengill

Thelma Burchett Bolton Massengill, born November 29, 1923, went to meet her Savior on September 25, 2017, at the age of 93. She was saved at a young age and was a member of Beaverdale Baptist Church in Halls. Thelma retired from Mt. Valley Head Start after many years of dedicated service. Thelma and her late husband traveled extensively and were proud to say they visited all fifty states and several Canadian providences. She loved to quilt and especially loved making homemade quilts for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Rev. Charles Edward "Chip" Warwick

Rev. Charles Edward “Chip” Warwick-age 72 of the New Loyston Community, Maynardville went home to be with his Saviour Monday, September 25, 2017 at Physicians Regional Medical Center. He leaves behind a wonderful testimony of salvation in which he received when he was 21 years old. He later announced his calling to preach at the age of 40. He stood steadfast, unmovable upon his faith in his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He pastored churches in Union and Knox County and was blessed to see countless souls saved.

Harold Anthony Erwin

Harold Anthony Erwin, age 72, of Maynardville went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2017. He was a devoted member of New Testament Baptist Church. Harold served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Agnus Erwin. He is survived by loving wife of 32 years Carol Erwin; son Jeff (Debbie) Baerman; daughter Tammy (Charles) Zirkle; grandchildren Richard Watt, Amber (Zachary) Mainwaring, Ashley Stout, Alexandria (Nick Larson) Hart, 13 great grandchildren; and many other loved ones.

Joseph Stanley LaRue

Joseph Stanley LaRue passed away September 23, 2017. He was a veteran of the US Army. Stanley loved the outdoors, especially to hunt and fish. Preceded in death by parents Elmer and Golda LaRue. Survived by siblings Roy (Janice) LaRue, Leonard (Ellie) LaRue, Shirley (Elijah) Turpin, Brenda (Gary) Beeler, Sharon (Phil) Boles; and special friends Ruthie and David Black. Barbara Sue Evars Ridenour, age 69, of Knoxville, Tennessee, went to be with The Lord September 23, 2017. She was a graduate of Fulton High School and was a devoted member of Texas Valley Baptist Church. Barbara was an amazing baker and loved Elvis. Barbara was preceded in death by: mother Mary Etta Evars (Nanny), loving husband of 38 years Homer Ridenour, and daughter Annetta Evars.

Janet D. Dyer Williams Hopson, age 77, of Corryton, passed away at her home with her loving family at her side. Preceded in death by husband Samuel Hopson; son Richard Williams; father John “Boss” Dyer; mother Edna Mae Dyer; grandsons Bradley Delph and great grandson Richard Dylan Gaddy; and son-in-law Gary Clark, Sr..

Bobby Joe McCarter, age 79 of Sevierville, Tennessee

Bobby Joe McCarter, age 79 of Sevierville, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the Jefferson County Health and Rehab Center after a valiant battle with a long illness.

Bobby was born to J.B. McCarter and Susie (Monroe) McCarter on July 13, 1939 in Maynardville. Tennessee. He spent several years growing up in Johnson City, Tennessee. Bobby was a charter member of the First Red Bank Baptist Church.

Norman Hotham, Jr.

Norman Hotham, Jr.-age 60 of New Tazewell, born February 20, 1957 died Monday, September 18, 2017 at Ft. Sander’s Regional Medical Center. He was a resident of New Tazewell, TN for 60 years. Preceded in death by mother, Anna Marie Runions; grandfather, Albert Runions; grandmother, Mary Etta Runions.

Robert Perry Bean

Robert Perry Bean, age 65, of Knoxville passed away September 22, 2017. A life-long resident of Knoxville, Bob retired from Tom’s Foods and CVS. Bob was a member of Clear Springs Baptist Church and loved his church family. He was a thirty year member of Masters Lodge #244 F&AM in Fountain City. Preceded in death by his parents, Fred Wallace Bean and Doris Ivey Bean; sister, Frances Garrett; and brother-in-law, Ray Houser.

Thomas Michael Pressley

Thomas Michael Pressley, age 73, of Corryton, went to be with the Lord September 20, 2017. Thomas was a graduate of Rule High School in 1962 and was also a graduate of Walter State Community College. He was a born again Christian and knew Jesus as his personal Savior. Thomas retired from the Knoxville Police Department with over 35 years of dedicated service. He was an active member with the Fraternal Order of Police serving with many community outreach programs including the FOP Youth Camp and the “Shop with a Cop” program.

Ralph Roberts

Ralph Roberts, age 86 passed from this life into Glory peacefully surrounded by his family, Tuesday morning September 19th at 2:45 am at his home. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant in the Korean war. He was retired from Tucker Steel. He loved life, to fish, and dance. He is fishing now in the Crystal river. He was a member of Valley View Baptist Church, presently attending Brandville Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Hattie Roberts; brothers, Tom and Jessie Roberts; and his sister Geraldine McMillan.

Doris June Phillips Obituary

Doris June Phillips passed away peacefully on September 21, 2017. She was employed for many years at Knox Manufacturing Company until the plant closed, and later at Slomsky's Tailor Shop. Doris was a creative and talented seamstress. She is survived by her husband, Tom Phillips; daughter and husband, Darlene Robinson McCarty and Danny McCarty; grandson and wife, great and great-great-grands Michael and Lisa Robinson, Cassidy, Katie and Skyler; brother and sister-in-law, John and Susie DeLozier.
