Allen Smith

Allen Ray “Al” Smith- Age 40 of Maynardville went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 12, 2017. He was a member of The Church of God of Maynardville. Allen was the owner and operator of Al’s Wholesale Tire Company. He was an avid UT football fan.

Katherine Bennett

Katherine A. Bennett, 80, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017. She attended Unity Baptist Church on Chapman Highway. She was preceded in death by her husbands William R. Hicks and Ronald Bennett. Katherine is survived by her children Sheila Hicks, Keith Hicks, Gail Daughtery, Ricky Hicks, Doug Hicks, David Hicks, and Jeff Hicks; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Family and Friends will meet at East Veteran’s Cemetery for a interment service Friday, September 15th at 9:30 a.m.

Paul Edwin Byerley

Paul Edwin Byerley, 86, passed away in Maynardville on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017. Paul grew up on a retail dairy farm, run by his parents and grandparents, on Little Valley Road in Blaine, Grainger County. He was a member of Mouth of Richland Baptist Church. After graduating from Rutledge High School, he earned a B.S. and M.S. in agricultural education from UT, then came to Union County where he worked 44 years as teacher, FFA adviser and administrator at Horace Maynard High School.

Karen Sue (Strader) Scarbrough

Karen Sue (Strader) Scarbrough-age 61 of Knoxville went to be with the Lord, Friday morning, September 8, 2017 at U. T. Medical Center. Preceded in death by father, Vernon Stubblefield; mother, Marcia Stubblefield.
Survivors: children, Charles Strader, David McMillan, Johnny Strader and wife, Brandi, Tiffany O’dell. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Brothers and sister, Vernon Stubblefield, Sharon McClain, Andy Stubblefield, Stuart and Patricia Stubblefield. Several nieces and nephews.

Judy Wilma Jean Graham

Judy Wilma Jean Graham, age 76, of Knoxville, TN went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017. She was of the Baptist faith and was a precious wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by parents Sam and Viola Williams, son Billy Graham, Jr., and siblings Teresa, and Jim, Dickey, Ulyes, Wayne, and Sammy Williams. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Billy E.

Clifford B. Liford

Mr. Clifford Boston “Boss” Liford-age 79 of Maynardville passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Willow Ridge Center, Maynardville. Clifford was born February 22, 1938 in Lone Mountain the son of the late Tom and Lizzie Liford. He was saved at age 11 at Sugar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Claiborne County. He was a member of Little Valley Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Lay’s Packing Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lorena Brantley, Vicie Logan and George Liford along with three half-brothers and four half-sisters.

Ellis David Nicely

Mr. Ellis D. “Jed” Nicely-age 69 of Maynardville went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday morning, September 4, 2017 at U. T. Medical Center. Ellis was a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church and attended Fellowship Christian Church in Luttrell. Preceded in death by parents, Earl and Reba Bailey Nicely; grandparents, Roy and Roma Liford Bailey, Martin “Eck” and Emma Boruff Nicely along with aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sharon Ann Stiltner

In loving remembrance of Sharon Ann Stiltner-age 60 of Luttrell who went to be with her heavenly Father on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at her home. She was loved and cherished by family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Hillard Turner. Survivors: mother, Norma Turner; fiancé, William Wiegand; son, Elliott Stiltner; grandsons, Brandon, Jason and Matthew; sisters, Melody and Donna; brother, Stephen along with several loved nieces and nephews.

Olta Jean Cook

Mrs. Olta Jean (Maples) Cook-age 85 of Sharps Chapel, born February 19, 1932 left for paradise Sunday morning, September 3, 2017 at Physicians Regional Medical Center due to complications of a stroke. She was a member of Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church and a 1951 graduate of Horace Maynard High School. Preceded in death by husband of 39 years, Walter Ollen Cook; parents, Jim and Etha Maples; sisters, Ova, Ollie and infant Dorothy; brothers, Foister, Ruble, Horace and Lonnie Maples.

Kenneth Fox

Kenneth Wayne Fox, age 51 of Knoxville, passed away August 29, 2017. He was a motivated man who enjoyed playing “tanks” on the computer with his granddaughter. Preceded in death by father Gary Fox and grandmother Josephine Fox. Survived by wife Pamela Fox; children Michael Fox (Monroe, Wisconsin), Michele Fox and fiancé Kasie Seeber, and Megan Greene and husband Alex (England); granddaughter Katelin Fox; brother Timothy Fox; mother Shirley Lee; grandmother; several uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends Tuesday Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m.

Joy Tindell

Joy Weaver Tindell, age 78 of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord September 1, 2017. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. She was a loving pastor’s wife and mother. Preceded in death by husband of 60 years Curtis Tindell; parents Matt and Grace Weaver; sister Agnes Williamson.

Judson George

Judson G. George, age 62, of Knoxville passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2017.
Judson was born January 11, 1955 to Bill and Phyllis George. He graduated in 1977 from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration. He was the owner of George’s Building Supply from 1984-1999, and worked for Schaad, Witt and 84 Lumber.

Betty Lou Underwood

Betty Lou Underwood, age 72, of Knoxville went to be with her heavenly Father on August 27, 2017. She was retired from TMSI after many years of service. Betty is preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Walter and Rosie Gann and brother, Frank Gann. She is survived by daughter, Debra Collins and husband Jason; grandchildren, Erica Wilson and fiancé Jason Dunn, Kandace Wilson, Skylar Wilson, Nicholas Collins; great-grandchild, Rhett Evans; sister, Faye Kelly and husband Frank; and brother, Larry Gann.

Ruth Hutchison

Ruth Hutchison passed away August 30, 2017 at the age of 90. She was born July 19, 1927 in Union County, TN., to Leroy and Ruby (Butcher) Raley. Ruth was a long time member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Her survivors include: children; Jim Hutchison (Amy Ryder), Bob Hutchison (Karen), Vickie Wilhite (Chuck), and Gail Anderson (Mike) all of Knoxville, TN; Her grandchildren; Trever Hutchison (Liza), Chad Hutchison (Jennifer), Joy Geoghagan (Jeff), Tess Frear (Derek), Brad Hutchison (Lindsey), Susan Wilhite, Allison Ardouin (Erick), Seth Anderson (Tara Bowlin), Samuel Anderson.

Walter G. Seymour

Walter G. Seymour passed away peacefully at home after several months of declining health on August 31, at age 91. Born in Union County and having lost both parents by age 13 he moved to North Knoxville to live with his older sister. At age 17 he left these Tennessee Hills for the first time taking a train ride to San Diego to join the USN. After training he was on the christening crew of the USS Kyne. In 1944, he sailed to the South Pacific to serve in our war effort as a naval reserve. He also served in Greencove Springs Florida during the Korean Conflict.

Clarence E. "Snowball" Brooks

Clarence Edward “Snowball” Brooks-age 81 of Luttrell passed away Saturday evening, August 26, 2017 at Beverly Park Place. Preceded in death by son, Eddie Brooks; father, Jim Brooks; mother and step-father, Pearl and Jack Hodge; brother, Gene Brooks.
Survivors: wife, Melissa Brooks; son, Jason Brooks, both of the home; son, James Brooks; two daughters, Judy and Dixie. Several grandchildren. Brothers, Johnny Brooks of Indiana; Jackie Hodge, Maynardville; sister, Ruby Woolard, Tazewell. Several other relatives and friends.
