Homer Jack Rose

Homer “Jack” Rose-age 82 of Maynardville passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, July 20, 2017. Jack was a member of Lighthouse Church in Luttrell and a retired employee of Luttrell Mine. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle who was always happy and never met a stranger. Preceded in death by daughter, Tesha Rose; father, Homer Rose; mother, Bessie Rose Burnett; sisters, Wanda Burnett, Naomi Collins, Delpha Collins, Betty Lawson.

Helmon Cavin "Wax" Smith

Helmon Cavin “Wax” Smith, age 94, of Knoxville, passed away July 15, 2017. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, proudly serving his country in World War II on the Pacific Theater. He retired from the K-25 plant in Oak Ridge after 35 years of service. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evelyn Smith; sons, Douglas Darrell Smith and Ronald Gene Smith; parents, Sam & Louise Smith; and several brothers and sisters.

J. D. Wallace, Sr.

John Daniel “J. D.” Wallace, Sr. – passed away at home on July 14, 2017 at the age of 87. J. D. was a lifelong member and well known Sunday School Teacher at Miller’s Chapel Methodist Church. J. D. was born and raised in Union County and began his career as a coach at Horace Maynard High School in Maynardville. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the State of Tennessee Employment Security for many years and was the State of Tennessee Employment Security Commissioner from 1974 – 1977. J. D.

Cecile Minnie Robbins Nokes

Cecile Minnie Robbins Nokes, 79 a long-time resident of the Fountain City area passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2017 with her family at her side. Cecile was the second born daughter to the late John Herman Robbins and Dollace Hutchison Robbins. Cecile never met a stranger, a trait that served her well in life and in her career. She was a successful bus driver for Loy Bus Lines and a food service worker for Shannondale Nursing Home. Her greatest joy and accomplishment was being a devoted wife to Gene and mother to her boys. Cecile was preceded in death by her husband.

Annis Faye Bowling

Annis Faye Finchum Bowling-age 81 of Flat Lick, Kentucky, formerly of Knoxville passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at U. K. Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky. She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. Preceded in death by husbands, Richard Reason Bowlin, Jr., Cecil Bowling; sons, Gary Lynn Bowlin, Samuel David Kenneth Bowlin, Larry Eugene Bowlin; grandsons, Christopher Scott O’Mary, James Terrance Davis; granddaughter, Barbara Ann Leighton; sisters, Donna Kay Rathbone, Lucy Rogers; brothers, Fred Finchum, Hugh L. Finchum, Jr., Dennis Finchum; sons-in-law, James Gibby, David Ruff.

J. D. Capps

Jacob Daniel “J. D.” Capps-age 90 of Washburn passed away Thursday evening, July 13, 2017 at U. T. Medical Center. He was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church and served as the caretaker of Liberty Hill Cemetery for many years. Preceded in death by wife, Ethel Asberry Capps. Survivors, daughter and her husband, Charlene and Earl “Shorty” Wood of Washburn; two grandchildren, Laken and Easton Bailey along with a host of friends.

Edward D. Nelson

Edward D. Nelson, age 89, passed away July 14, 2017. He worked at Avondale Farms Creamery for over 30 years. Ed will be remembered for his hearty laughter and was a charter member of Halls Crossroads Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by wife, Mabel Smyth Nelson and infant son; parents, John and Bertha Nelson; and several brothers and sisters.

Darlene L. Wolfenbarger

Darlene L. Wolfenbarger, age 89, born February 28, 1928, passed away July 13, 2017. She was preceded in death by husband Arthur Wolfenbarger, parents, Zola and Ulysses Albright and infant sister, Madelyn. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Leonard and Debbie Wolfenbarger. She was a member of Emory Valley Baptist Church for 57 years. Family and friends may call at their convenience Saturday, July 15 from 10:00am until 6:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel. Shirley Byrd Martin

Shirley Byrd Martin, age 76, passed away July 10, 2017. She was a member of New Pleasant Gap Missionary Baptist Church. Shirley retired from Senior Citizen Home Assistance after 20 years of service as a Field Supervisor. Preceded in death by daughter, Sharon Irwin; grandson, Derrick Claiborne; parents, Charles and Grace Byrd; sister, Brenda Byrd. Left to cherish her memory are husband, Larry Z. Martin; daughters, Tamela (Brian) Lane and Helen Roberts; grandchildren, Serena, Charles and Robert Poland, Danny Irwin, Amanda Drollman and Brandy (Edward) Woods; 12 great grandchildren.

Charles Clarence Williams

Charles Clarence Williams-age 70 of Lone Mountain passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Pearlie Harper Williams. He is survived by a cousin and her husband Barbara Lou and Jerry Palmer of Knoxville along with other relatives and friends. In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated and no public services are planned. His cremains will be placed with his family at the family cemetery at a later date. Serenity Joy Linville of Maynardville, infant daughter of Chris and Melissa Linville went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 8, 2017. She is survived by her parents along with brothers, Christopher Blake, Cameron Chase, Jraven Dawson and Joseph Justus; sisters, Skylar Alexis, Haven Faith and Miracle Grayce-Hope; grandparents, Rocky and Lisa Gulley; James and Betty Linville.

Mary Ann Nicely

Mary Ann Nicely-age 73 of Maynardville passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017 at her home. Preceded in death by husband, James Austin Nicely; daughter, Donna Lynn Tharp; parents, Everett and Juanita Berrier.
Survivors: son, Jeffrey Alan Nicely; six grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Jack Brown

Jack Brown, age 80, of Powell, went home to be with the Lord on July 10, 2017 at 4:36am. He was the owner and operator of Halls Paving Co. for many years. He was a member of New Pleasant Gap Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing and playing music. He loved his family and friends and he enjoyed his life. Preceded in death by loving wife Carolyn Brown. Daughter, Vanessa Bruner and granddaughter, Trish Brown. Twin brother, Johnny. Brothers, Bill, Clarence and Bob. Sisters, Nell, Liz, Iona, Katherine, Margaret and Mossie Lee.

Charles Lester Williams, age 73, of Maynardville, passed away on Sunday, July 9th, 2017. He was of the Baptist faith, attended Crossroads Baptist Church, and was owner and operator of Halls Upholstery in Halls Crossroads for 32 years. He was proceeded in death by wife of 49 years, Barbara Ann Williams, parents Lester and Sarah Moats Williams, siblings Jackie Williams, Willie Paul Williams, Rosemary Littleton, Pauline Strickland, Hazel Mincey, Frances Reynolds, and Dorothy Crowe.
