Bonnie Jean York

Bonnie Jean Parsley York-age 76 of Knoxville passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Physicians Regional Medical Center. She was of The Church of God faith and was a beloved wife and sister.
Survivors: husband of 25 years, Timothy O. York of Knoxville; brothers, Joe, Chuck and Bob Parsley; sisters, Sandra Crawford and Kathy Corbin. Several nieces and nephews.

Alvin Glenn Frye

Alvin Glenn Frye, age 93, of Fountain City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran and served in World War II and the Korean War as a Corpsman. He was an active member of the Fountain City Lions Club, honorary member of the North Knoxville Rotary Club, and owner and operator of Fountain City Exxon.

Linda Sue Johnson

Linda Sue Johnson, age 77, of Knoxville, has finally seen the face of Jesus, something she longed for on July 17, 2017. She is survived by the ones she laughed with, lived for, and loved on. She was kind and beautiful inside and out and loved her children and grandchildren with her unfailing passionate heart. She retired from Plasti-line, Inc. Preceded in death by parents Lester B. and Eva P. (Harris) Hawkins.

J.C. Wolfenbarger

J.C. Wolfenbarger, age 90, entered his eternal home Thursday July 20, 2017. Preceded in death by parents Cal and Martha Wolfenbarger; an infant brother and a most beloved son Dennis Wolfenbarger. Survived by his loving wife of 69 years Hope Farmer Wolfenbarger; sons Michael, William, and Steve Wolfenbarger; daughters-in-law Dianne, Suzanne, and Angel; granddaughters, Kimberley, Kelley, and Bridgette; grandsons, Blake and Drew; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Georgella Rogers; nieces and nephews, special friends Neil and Linda Smith.

Wesley Eugene Key

Wesley Eugene Key, age 63 of Knoxville, TN, went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2017 and is now gloriously singing with the angels. Wesley always met you with a smile on his face and a joke to make you laugh. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family. He loved to travel to the Outer Banks of NC and driving his Dodge pick-up truck. Wesley loved all animals, but had a special place in his heart for his beloved Miracle. He was an AMAZING singer, an inspiring choir leader and talented guitar and auto harp player.

Jacob Jake Franklin Butcher

Jacob “Jake” Franklin Butcher passed away on July 19, 2017 at the age of 81 after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Jake was born May 8, 1936 to Cecil H. Butcher, Sr. and Kate Walters Butcher in the rural town of Maynardville, Tennessee. Jake attended Maynardville High School and later the University of Tennessee and Hiwassee College.  After college, he joined the United States Marine Corps serving primarily in Korea, Japan and Marine Corps Air Station El Toro.  Jake always held the Marine Corps close to his heart.  He married Broadway actress and Oak Ridge native Sonya Wilde in 1962 and together they had four children, Maria (Randy) Loyd, Scarlett (Tim) Current, Brad (Leigh Ann) Butcher and Jason (Ashley) Butcher.  Jake and Sonya also have 8 grandchildren, Kendall Loyd White, Austin Loyd, McCall Current, Joshua Current, Colby Butcher, Katelyn Butcher, Jace Butcher and Olivia Butcher, and 2 great grandchildren, Abigail and Judah White.  During his long life, he treasured his family and they all adored him.

Gary Danny Smith

Gary Danny Smith age 69 of Maynardville, formerly of Luttrell went to be with the Lord, Thursday evening, July 20, 2017 at his home. He was of the Baptist faith and a U. S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star while serving in Nha Trang, South Vietnam with the 14th Security Police Squadron. Preceded in death by parents, Tivis and Lucy Smith; sisters, Ruby Donahue, Wilma Wolfe and Reba Householder Peterson; brothers, Toots, J. T. and Dickie Smith; nephew, Larry Smith, Darrell Donahue; niece, Patsy Griffey.

Jason Carter Blevins

Jason Carter Blevins-age 37 of Maynardville, born January 15, 1980 passed away Wednesday morning, July 19, 2017. Preceded in death by father, Carter Blevins; sister, Carla Blevins; grandparents, Baxter and Betty Blevins, Bill and Helen Henderson.

Homer Jack Rose

Homer “Jack” Rose-age 82 of Maynardville passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, July 20, 2017. Jack was a member of Lighthouse Church in Luttrell and a retired employee of Luttrell Mine. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle who was always happy and never met a stranger. Preceded in death by daughter, Tesha Rose; father, Homer Rose; mother, Bessie Rose Burnett; sisters, Wanda Burnett, Naomi Collins, Delpha Collins, Betty Lawson.

Helmon Cavin "Wax" Smith

Helmon Cavin “Wax” Smith, age 94, of Knoxville, passed away July 15, 2017. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, proudly serving his country in World War II on the Pacific Theater. He retired from the K-25 plant in Oak Ridge after 35 years of service. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evelyn Smith; sons, Douglas Darrell Smith and Ronald Gene Smith; parents, Sam & Louise Smith; and several brothers and sisters.

J. D. Wallace, Sr.

John Daniel “J. D.” Wallace, Sr. – passed away at home on July 14, 2017 at the age of 87. J. D. was a lifelong member and well known Sunday School Teacher at Miller’s Chapel Methodist Church. J. D. was born and raised in Union County and began his career as a coach at Horace Maynard High School in Maynardville. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the State of Tennessee Employment Security for many years and was the State of Tennessee Employment Security Commissioner from 1974 – 1977. J. D.

Cecile Minnie Robbins Nokes

Cecile Minnie Robbins Nokes, 79 a long-time resident of the Fountain City area passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2017 with her family at her side. Cecile was the second born daughter to the late John Herman Robbins and Dollace Hutchison Robbins. Cecile never met a stranger, a trait that served her well in life and in her career. She was a successful bus driver for Loy Bus Lines and a food service worker for Shannondale Nursing Home. Her greatest joy and accomplishment was being a devoted wife to Gene and mother to her boys. Cecile was preceded in death by her husband.

She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. J. D. Capps

Jacob Daniel “J. D.” Capps-age 90 of Washburn passed away Thursday evening, July 13, 2017 at U. T. Medical Center. He was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church and served as the caretaker of Liberty Hill Cemetery for many years. Preceded in death by wife, Ethel Asberry Capps. Survivors, daughter and her husband, Charlene and Earl “Shorty” Wood of Washburn; two grandchildren, Laken and Easton Bailey along with a host of friends.

Edward D. Nelson

Edward D. Nelson, age 89, passed away July 14, 2017. He worked at Avondale Farms Creamery for over 30 years. Ed will be remembered for his hearty laughter and was a charter member of Halls Crossroads Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by wife, Mabel Smyth Nelson and infant son; parents, John and Bertha Nelson; and several brothers and sisters.

Darlene L. Wolfenbarger

Darlene L. Wolfenbarger, age 89, born February 28, 1928, passed away July 13, 2017. She was preceded in death by husband Arthur Wolfenbarger, parents, Zola and Ulysses Albright and infant sister, Madelyn. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Leonard and Debbie Wolfenbarger. Shirley Byrd Martin

Shirley Byrd Martin, age 76, passed away July 10, 2017. She was a member of New Pleasant Gap Missionary Baptist Church. Shirley retired from Senior Citizen Home Assistance after 20 years of service as a Field Supervisor. Preceded in death by daughter, Sharon Irwin; grandson, Derrick Claiborne; parents, Charles and Grace Byrd; sister, Brenda Byrd. Left to cherish her memory are husband, Larry Z. Martin; daughters, Tamela (Brian) Lane and Helen Roberts; grandchildren, Serena, Charles and Robert Poland, Danny Irwin, Amanda Drollman and Brandy (Edward) Woods; 12 great grandchildren.

Charles Clarence Williams

Charles Clarence Williams-age 70 of Lone Mountain passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Pearlie Harper Williams. He is survived by a cousin and her husband Barbara Lou and Jerry Palmer of Knoxville along with other relatives and friends. In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated and no public services are planned. His cremains will be placed with his family at the family cemetery at a later date.
