James "Shane" Digby

James “Shane” Digby – age 42 of Maryville, passed away on October 10, 2017. He was of the Baptist faith.

Shane is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn Roberts; daughters, Shannon Digby, Sabrina Digby and Courtney Digby; son, Matthew Digby; mother Elizabeth (Willard) Nicley; father, James Digby; sister, Mary Evon Queen; and brother, David Ledford.

Nathan Allen Hyde

Nathan Allen Hyde-age 34 of Knoxville passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 while visiting in the State of Florida. He was born October 5, 1983 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his mother, Karen Simpson Hyde; grandparents, James and Fae Dotson Simpson of Maynardville.

He is survived by daughter, Keegan Lee Hyde; father Lynn Edward Hyde; step-mother, Jocelyn Hyde; step-sister, Beckie Kitts and Brandi Kendall; loving grandparents, James and Thelma Lee Hyde, all of Knoxville.

Virgie Opal Corum

Virgie “Opal” Corum – age 91 of Maynardville, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, October 9, 2017. Opal was a member of Miller’s Chapel United Methodist Church where she was very active in the children’s Sunday School classes along with many other church activities. She is a retired employee of Standard Knitting Mills and worked with the Union County Senior Citizen Center.

Donald "Rich" Ellison

Donald “Rich” Ellison, aged 69, passed away October 9, 2017. Rich had a passion for old cars and the music of George Strait. Preceded in death by parents Donald and Wanetta Ellison and brothers Jeff Ellison and Dr. Dave Ellison. Left to cherish his memory are loving wife Arlene Ellison; children Chuck (Tonja) Ellison and Joy (Brent) Waldrop; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sister Erma King; and sister-in-law Sandi Ellison. The family would like to thank Dr. Salter and nurse Patti Grass for their exceptional and loving care.

Paul E. Williams-age 71 of Maynardville passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 at Physicians Regional Medical Center. Paul was a member of Mt. Eager Baptist Church and a retired employee of the Union County Highway Department. Preceded in death by parents, Rector and Bonnie Williams; brother, Junior Williams; sisters, Pauline (Jimmy) Nicely, Gladys Crawford.

Survivors: wife: Betty Carmon Williams, special daughter, Carrie Johnson, special son-in-law, James Johnson; sister-in-law, Charolette Williams; brother-in-law, Elmer Crawford; several other special family and friends.

Angela Carol "Cookie' Munsey Lundin

Angela Carol “Cookie” Munsey Lundin-age 59 of Maynardville passed away suddenly Friday, October 6, 2017 at her home. She was a member of Hubbs Grove Baptist Church and a retired employee of Union County Health Department. Preceded in death by parents, J. Will and Imogene (Booker) Munsey; sister, Karen Dale Wynn; brothers, Joe Ed Munsey, Gary William “Pete” Munsey; great-aunt, Lillie McPhetridge; nephew, Erin Munsey.

April Renee Gray

April Renee Gray, age 49, of Knoxville, TN passed away on Wednesday, October 4th, 2017. She was an Anderson County High School graduate, attended Pellissippi State Community College and ITT Tech, and worked as a security guard for the last several years. She was preceded in death by grandparents Lawrence “Doc” and Dora Hamilton and Everette and Eva Lane, and uncles Donnie and Gerald Hamilton. She is survived by parents Kyle Lane and Marlene Lane, children Cody Dorwin, Tyler Burnette, Cayden and Kaley Gray, and a host of aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.

Jerry Dean Chambers

Jerry Dean Chambers-age 82 of Andersonville went peacefully to be with the Lord, Thursday afternoon, October 5, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Chambers; parents, Elizabeth and Raymond Chambers; great-grandson, Carson Allen and several brothers and sisters.

He leaves behind his loving daughter, Paulette (Mark) Chadwell of Corryton; Melissa Wyrick of Knoxville; two granddaughters, April Chadwell of Corryton and Hannah Chadwell of Knoxville.

Rebecca Jean Edwards, born December 1, 1954, passed away October 3, 2017. Preceded in death by parents Retha Faye Hatley and William Riley Coffey; daughter Michelle Edwards; brothers James and William Coffey; granddaughter Whitney Godfrey.

Oren H. Myers

Oren H. Myers, age 97, of Knoxville, TN passed away on Monday, October 2nd, 2017. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II as a long-range radar operator and a morse code instructor. He graduated from the University of Tennessee and worked in health physics, seismology, and human development at Union Carbide of Oak Ridge until he later retired. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, coin collecting, HAM radio operating and spending time with family. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, June McBee Myers, brothers Dr. W.M. Myers Jr. (Cupie) and J.B.

Marie Elaine Freeman Dewberry

Marie Elaine Freeman Dewberry, age 61, of Knoxville passed away October 1, 2017. She was of the Christian faith. Elaine was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. Preceded in death by parents Roy and Theresa Freeman and brother Robert Freeman. Survived by husband Michael Dewberry; children Daniel (Christy) Johnson, David (Nickie) Johnson, and Camie (Ryan)Kuhn; grandchildren Hayden, Dylan, and Mason Johnson, Emma Grace Johnson, Reese, Kaelyn, and Channing Kuhn; sisters Jean (Woody) Manley, Ann Lancaster, and Jan Denton; brother Thomas (Karen) Freeman; several nieces and nephews.

Faye Smith

Faye Smith, age 93, of Knoxville passed away October 2, 2017. She was a godly woman who was a longtime member of Smithwood Baptist Church. She retired from Knox Department Stores and the University of Tennessee as a switch board operator. She enjoyed quilting at the O’Conner Center, working with Women in Missions, and bird watching. She loved her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by devoted and loving husband Robert (Bob) Smith; parents Sarah Beulah and Lon Maston Cooper; daughter Bobbie Faye Price.

Jeffrey Alan Nicely-age 49 of Maynardville passed away suddenly Monday morning, October 2, 2017 in Knoxville. Preceded in death by parents, James Austin and Mary Ann Nicely; sister, Donna Lynn Tharp.

Randolph H. "Ranny" Turner

Randolph H. “Ranny” Turner-age 82 of Maynardville passed away Monday morning, October 2, 2017 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was a member and deacon of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Hazel and Hattie J. Turner; brother, Edward Turner; sisters, Anna Mae Turner, Faustine Dukes, Waywona Johnson; great-grandson, Sylas Richardson.

J. C. Hill

Jesse “J. C.” Hill – age 74 of Maynardville, born in Luttrell, Tennessee May 13, 1943, went home to meet his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ early Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center after a short illness. J. C. was a long standing member of Warwick’s Chapel Baptist Church where he gave his heart to the Lord at age 11 on November 28, 1954. He served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and loved the Lord and his church family. He was a graduate of HMHS class of ’62. J. C.

Joe Thomas Funderburk

Joe Thomas Funderburk, age 69, passed away September 23, 2017 after a long illness. He was born on March 25, 1948 in Charlotte, North Carolina and was currently residing in Knoxville, Tennessee and employed by Beverly Steel for the past 15 years. Joe enjoyed outdoor activities and visiting Cade’s Cove with friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Kenny Funderburk; son, Kip Funderburk.

Charlie Edward Cox-age 77 of Maynardville passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at home. He was a member of Pennington Chapel Baptist Church and a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Preceded in death by wife, Margie Louise Cox; son, Joey Edward Cox; parents, Porter and Roberta Cox; brother, Billy Joe Cox.
Survivors: son, Timothy Scott Cox; granddaughters, Brandi Hope Cox and Taylor Buckner; sisters, Dovie Smith, Mickie Nicley, Kathy Jones; brothers, James Edward Cox and Robert Earl Cox. Several nieces and nephews.

Jerry Douglas Hughett, Jr. age 51 went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 26, 2017 after a long illness. Jerry was a member of Sunnyview Baptist Church, which he loved and considered to be extended family. Preceded in death by father, Jerry D. Hughett Sr.; grandmother, Katherine Hughett; uncle, Van A. Hughett. Jerry leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 22 years, Christi; cherished children, Kaylie and Van; special aunt, Linda Thomas; brother, Jeff Hughett, and many other loving family and friends.
