Raymond “Pap” Hensley-age 89 of Luttrell passed away peacefully Saturday, December 9, 2017 at North Knoxville Medical Center. Preceded in death by wife, Della Hensley; son, Everette “Bud” Hensley; son-in-law, Dale “Eddie” Douglas; parents, Robert and Lily Hensley; brothers, Jack, Everette, Verlin and J. C.; sister, Lela Kitts.

Winston Bullen Evans

Winston Bullen Evans, age 86, a member of First Baptist Church of Powell, passed away at her home on December 9. Winston was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She is preceded in death by father James Bullen; mother Pearl Bullen; sister Gladys York; brother Paul Bullen; and infant son James Terrell Evans.

Cecil E. McMurray

Cecil E. McMurray, age 85, passed away December 8, 2017. He was a member of Loveland Baptist Church. Cecil was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a veteran of the US Army. Cecil was a self-employed mechanic for over 50 years. Preceded in death by parents Harvey and Leona McMurray; brother Austin McMurray.

James M. (Mike) Vandergriff

James M. (Mike) Vandergriff, age 63, passed away 12-8-17. 1972 Honors Graduate (Halls High School). Mike was a lifelong resident of the Halls Community and Member of Salem Baptist Church. Survivors include: Wife of 44 years, Connie; Daughters and husbands, Rebecca (Daniel) Sutphin, Jenny (Bobby) Hassell, Amy (Nicholas) McGuire; 9 grandchildren Taylor, Oren, Callie, Ethan, Corban, Arlen, Lainey, Eamon, and Deacon; Mother and Step-dad, Mildred and Edsel Norris; Brothers and Wives, Greg (Susan), Doug (Pam), and Chris (Theresa) Vandergriff.

Kristina Nicole Raley

Kristina Nicole Raley-age 37 of Maynardville passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Physicians Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Hubbs Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Zachary and Kaden; parents, H. I. and Cheryl Raley; sister, Jessica Raley; grandmother, Betty Moyers, several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

B.H. Hodge, age 79, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Ft. Sanders Hospital. He and his wife, June (Tindell) Hodge, were married 59 wonderful years. God blessed their union with 3 children, Alecia (Bill), Brad (Terri) and Alan (and friend Barbara); 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Micah, Jonathan, Chase, Andrew and Annalisa; 2 great grandchildren, Natalie and Amelia. He is survived by sisters Doris Reeves, Karen (Terry) Shoffner; brother, Larry Hodge; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Max and Helen Hodge, and brother, Ronnie Hodge. B.H.

Norma Pearl Tolliver

Norma Pearl Tolliver (Whaley), age 68 of Anderson County, TN went to be with the lord on December 1, 2017. She was a devoted and loving wife. She was the most amazing mother with much more love and compassion than a child’s heart could embrace. Preceded in death by father George Whaley and mother Flora Whaley (Nolan). She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Troy Tolliver; sons Hurley Wilson, Donald Miller; daughters Melissa Hill and Tonya & husband Andy Ford. She was delighted to have 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Jason Shawn Sweet

Jason Shawn Sweet, age 41, of Maynardville, went to live with his Lord and Savior on December 5, 2017. He was a member and deacon of Sidebrook Baptist Church. Jason was a wonderful husband, son, brother and friend to all. Preceded in death by second dad, Gilbert Brock; grandparents, and special aunt. He is survived by loving wife of 23 years, Wendy Sweet; father, Elmer (Frances) Sweet; mother, Cathy (Wayne) Bailey; second mom, Sue Brock; brothers, Travis Bailey and Ray Brock; sisters, Kathy Bailey and Charity Sweet; son (dog) Brutus; adopted children, Kayla, Jake, Riyah, Brayden, Peyton.

Jeffrey Reynolds

Jeff L. Reynolds – age 47 of Maynardville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 4, 2017. He was of the Baptist faith.

Jeff is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dawn M. Reynolds; son, Joseph L. Reynolds; father, E. G. Reynolds; and brother, David Reynolds. He is survived by his children, Brianna, Mackenzie and Nathaniel Reynolds; mother, Mary Ann Reynolds; aunt and uncle, Helen and Earl Johnson; and a large group of family and friends. He will be remembered as a selfless, loving man and be dearly missed.

Michael "Mike" Hickson

Michael “Mike” Hickson passed away December 2, 2017. He was a member of Freeway Church of God. Mike was a kind and gentle man who loved his family; especially his mother, daughter and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are daughter Candace (Scott) Nelson; grandchildren Tyler, Ciara and Brooke; parents David and Louella Hickson; and brother David (Darlene) Hickson Jr.

Jason Lynn (Worm) Moore, age 40, of Powell, went home to his Savior December 2, 2017. He became a child of God at an early age. He loved the outdoors and everyone around him. He was a life long concrete finisher.

He is survived by parents Kathy and Carl Richmond; son Austin Lynn Moore; daughter Kayla Fultz-Moyers; grandson Brently Moore; brothers Peanut, Joe and Jesse Richmond and other brothers and sisters; father Ricky Moore; mother of his children Crystal Fultz; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; special nieces and nephews Kadin, Parker, Abby and Laylah.

Katherine Kolter Smith

Katherine Kolter Smith, of Strawberry Plains, TN, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017.

She was born in Knoxville and moved to Mobile, AL. in the 70’s, to follow her dreams. She owned and operated “Katie’s Health Food” at Tilman’s Corner and Spanish Fort, for 25 plus years. Her legacy of teaching healthy living and nutrition was shared with thousands, and is still active. She retired and returned to Tennessee.

Dorothy Garland

Dorothy Marie Wright Garland of Knoxville, age 89, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday December 2nd. Dorothy was such a wonderful, loving, and devoted mother and grandmother to so many and loved everyone with a special love. Dorothy is preceded in death by daughters Linda Rudd, Patsy Curnutt Wilson, and Betty Gibbs; son Alan Wright. She is survived by sons Ronny Wright (Teresa), David Wright (Sharon), Johnny Wright, and Terry Wright (Tressa); daughter Debbie Huggins (Mike); 29 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

Beulah B. King

Beulah B. King, age 90 of Oak Ridge, went joyfully to be with the Lord December 3, 2017 at Alexander Guest House Assisted Living. She was a member of Royce Baptist Church for 48 years. She began work as a sales associate at Knox Department Store in 1973 and went on to work at Proffitts, and then Belk where she retired November 2016. She is preceded in death by husband Harold King. Survived by daughter and son-in-law Gail and Jack Taylor, of Farragut; granddaughter Devin and husband Mike Inman; grandson Bobby and Andrea Taylor, of Knoxville. Family will receive friends 5:30p.m.-7:00p.m.

Charis Beth Lay, age 70, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on December 1, 2017. She retired from East Ridge Uniforms.

She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years William “Bill” Lay and his children.

Danny Ernest McCarter

Danny Ernest McCarter, age 70 of Powell, TN passed away Thursday November 30, 2017. He was an United States Army Veteran and served as a medic in the Vietnam War. He was also a Silver Star recipient. He was a former member of West Lonsdale Baptist Church and was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Powell. He retired from Fi-Shock/Woodstream after 35+ years of service and was a member of the American Legion Post-2. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed traveling with his son to different MLB parks. He loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren.

George Hobert Murphy

George Hobert Murphy went to be with the Lord November 29, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He left a great legacy behind. He was the son of the late Henry and Lula Murphy. Preceded in death by his wife Christine Murphy and son Phillip Wayne Murphy.
