Thunder in the Park Lights Up the Night

The 4th Annual Thunder in the Park, free professional fireworks show will light up the night sky in Maynardville, Tennessee, on Saturday evening, August 31, 2019. The gates open at 5:00pm, so be there with the family and some lawn chairs at Wilson Park to witness the county’s signature event. Last year’s nearly 8,000 attendees can share that the event was a spectacular light show with an array of family friendly activities available in addition.

Enriched History and Warm Welcomes at Union County Museum

Reflect on Union County’s unique history with a visit to the Union County Museum and Genealogical Library, where you will feel right at home when greeted with a, “Welcome, how may I help you today, and who do I have the pleasure of meeting.” Museum volunteer Wanda Byerley says that many promptly return a smile and a family name that they wish to learn more about.

Maynardville – The Union County Farmers Market and Seven Springs Farm to Table farm store are excited to announce the kickoff of the Double Up Food Bucks (Double Up) program on Saturday, August 3rd in partnership with Nourish Knoxville and the Tennessee Department of Health.

Russell Supports Style and Trend with Sweet Southern Creations

As Reese Witherspoon says, “My rule is, if it’s not moving, monogram it!”, and that is exactly what Candace Russell, owner of Sweet Southern Creations in Maynardville, instills in her trade. Her business of customizing, designing, and personalizing continues to trend and thrive after three years and running.

Candace creates personalized and custom apparel and embroiders bags, hats, and well, like Reese says, anything that isn’t moving. Her business is located at her home in the Big Ridge community. Maynardville is her hometown and where her heart and family lies.

Ribbon Cutting at Walkers Appliances

Maynardville welcomingly introduces a new business into the community, Walker’s Appliances. Clint Walker and wife Mandi bring much knowledge, experience and service to the community. Clint grew up in the furniture industry, as his parents owned Mynatt’s Furniture store in Halls, and Mandi grew up in the Gibbs community. Later, Clint transitioned from furniture into appliance sales and service, gaining some of his experience while working in maintenance at an apartment complex. He soon advanced, working for an appliance store for some years as a service tech.

Summer at the Farmers Market

Summer is in full swing at the Union County Farmers Market. The market is located in Wilson Park and open on Saturdays from 10am – 1pm. Our new Saturday hours allow our farmers to harvest early on Saturday morning bringing you the freshest possible produce. We hope the later hours will also encourage you to take advantage of the food trucks that are joining us! Enjoy a snack, breakfast or lunch.

Paint Party on Main Street

On June 29, Main Street exploded with color. Union County Platinum Athletics hosted a Paint Party to youths and families of the community. The children, as well as the children at heart, excessively enjoyed a paint slip-n-slide, shaving cream twister, canvas painting with squirt bottles, water balloon fight, and an over the top paint war. The paint war is exactly that, a war, everyone throws powder paint at everyone who came for a fun mess of a time, creating a beautiful, colorful rainbow mess.

Movie Night in the Park

Summer is in full swing and Union County has a festive, family friendly event planned in the near future. The City of Maynardville along with Maynardville Public Library is sponsoring a Movie in the Park night at Wilson Park on Friday night, July 19, 2019.

David McCollough Celebrates 30 Years

In June 2019, David McCollough celebrated thirty years in the insurance industry. David is a State Farm Agent in Maynardville, Tennessee. He grew up in South Alabama with hardworking parents who taught him the importance of working to achieve your goals. David graduated from Troy University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. He has three children who live close by in beautiful East Tennessee; Jake, Abby, and John David.
