Movie Night in the Park

Summer is in full swing and Union County has a festive, family friendly event planned in the near future. The City of Maynardville along with Maynardville Public Library is sponsoring a Movie in the Park night at Wilson Park on Friday night, July 19, 2019.

Last October, as you may remember, Hocus Pocus in the Park was an overwhelming success with visitors from miles around. This summer’s film showing is a 1985 released film that any 80s or 90s kid will recognize. As many may remember the film’s lead cast members are Mikey, Brand, Chunk, and Mouth. The young misfits nickname their group and discover an ancient map, then set out on a quest to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure. It is hard to forget famous quotes like, “Hey you guys!” or “First you gotta do the truffle shuffle,” from the film.

The movie will begin at dusk in the park, but that is only part of the fun. There will be several food trucks present including Hog Heaven BBQ, Liquid Lightening Iced Coffee, A Bite of the Big Apple Italian Ice, and UCHS Wrestling selling popcorn, drinks, and refreshments. Sweet Southern Tumbling and Dance2Fit will host an array of children’s activities including a dance contest. Be sure to come early to enjoy the family fun and local vendors. If you are interested in becoming a vendor or leading a children’s activity, contact Ty Blakely via Facebook Messenger.

Youth in need of community service hours or adults willing and able to volunteer are invited to stay after the showing to help get the park cleaned up and the event packed away. The community and youth have shown support in the past and always step up as needed with sincere appreciation from all of those involved. Those preparing the event are in hopes of good support and attendance so that planning for a fall film in October can begin shortly thereafter.

This is a FREE family event, fun for all ages. Be sure to bring your lawn chair or a picnic blanket for comfort during the show. Coolers are welcomed, but alcohol is prohibited. In the event of bad weather, rain plans will be released at a date closer to the event. Follow the event on Facebook listed as Movie in the Park. Show up and enjoy this community partnered event and build everlasting memories with your family, friends, and community.
