Summer at the Farmers Market
Emmagayle and Jennagrace Malone of Union Farm
Summer is in full swing at the Union County Farmers Market. The market is located in Wilson Park and open on Saturdays from 10am – 1pm. Our new Saturday hours allow our farmers to harvest early on Saturday morning bringing you the freshest possible produce. We hope the later hours will also encourage you to take advantage of the food trucks that are joining us! Enjoy a snack, breakfast or lunch.
July is an exciting time at our farmers market as some of the most iconic summer produce arrives. Yes, the peaches and cream corn has arrived but you can also expect beans – many varieties, blackberries, blueberries, cabbage, cucumbers, garlic, greens, herbs, melons, okra, onions, peppers (sweet and hot), potatoes, summer squashes – many varieties, tomatoes – many varieties and watermelon.
The 2nd Saturday celebrations are returning to the market again this year with August 10 being the Back to School Celebration and September 14th our Celebration of the Arts. StoryThyme will be at 11:15am followed by POPP Club (ages 5-12) at 11:30am during all of our 2nd Saturday celebrations.
Our Annual Tomato Tasting Event will be Saturday, July 20 and is open to home gardeners also. Everyone is encouraged to attend, sample some great tomatoes and vote for their favorite small (snacking) and large (sandwich) tomato.
Farm Market Fresh is returning to the market again this year. Allison Campbell, Farmers Market Fresh Program Assistant, will have recipes, tastes and children’s activities on a weekly basis beginning with our Fruits of Summer Celebration.
We always have wonderful artists and craftsmen, some great volunteers and several local businesses and non-profits also join us. We just need you to make our Union County Farmers Market truly a place “where the community meets.”
