Thunder in the Park Lights Up the Night
The 4th Annual Thunder in the Park, free professional fireworks show will light up the night sky in Maynardville, Tennessee, on Saturday evening, August 31, 2019. The gates open at 5:00pm, so be there with the family and some lawn chairs at Wilson Park to witness the county’s signature event. Last year’s nearly 8,000 attendees can share that the event was a spectacular light show with an array of family friendly activities available in addition.
The Union County Chamber of Commerce organizes this event. The Chamber is an organization of Union County business professionals, volunteers and leaders working to promote and protect the interests of the Union County business community. You can bet that Chamber President, Thomas Skibinski, has been busy planning and organizing even more exciting additions to the tourism event for the 2019 year. New this year will be a 47-foot Ferris Wheel located near the Veteran’s Wall, talk about a view! Only $5 per ride, too.
Some other favorites during Thunder in the Park are free face painting, free buggy rides by the Shriners, and $5 pony rides. There will be a live music lineup including the Union County Opry house band and Track 145.
Track 145 is a bluegrass band from Pikeville, Tennessee. They have played at Ole Red Gatlinburg, Dollywood, the Blue Plate Special, and many more significant events. Union County is looking forward to this fantastic addition to this year’s entertainment roster. You won’t want to miss out on the wonderful craft and food vendors as well.
“Like all tourism events, this event brings awareness of Maynardville and Union County to the surrounding areas. Besides awareness, this brings additional sales tax revenue,” says Skibinski. It is a benefit for all in the community, local businesses, and those visiting from out of town.
Gary England, along with others, has worked hard on putting together the complementary Cruise-In at Thunder in the Park. The show will begin at 5:00pm and continue until the fireworks begin. Anyone is welcomed to participate; classics, muscles, tractors, motorcycles, or whatever make or model you’d like to enter. Entry is free of charge and there will be lots of door prizes for Cruise-In participants. No preregistration is necessary just pull into the Union County High School parking lot to take part.
The Chamber expresses a sincere thanks to event sponsors David McCollough State Farm, Ray Varner Ford, and Boat Worx. Other special thanks go to the City of Maynardville, Union County Mayor and Commissioners, Maynardville Police Department, Maynardville Fire Department, Union County Rescue Squad, and Union County Sherriff’s Department.
