Ribbon Cutting at Walkers Appliances

Clint and Mandi Walker cutting the ribbon for the opening of their business, Walker's Appliances, in Maynardville, Tennessee, along with local supporters.

Maynardville welcomingly introduces a new business into the community, Walker’s Appliances. Clint Walker and wife Mandi bring much knowledge, experience and service to the community. Clint grew up in the furniture industry, as his parents owned Mynatt’s Furniture store in Halls, and Mandi grew up in the Gibbs community. Later, Clint transitioned from furniture into appliance sales and service, gaining some of his experience while working in maintenance at an apartment complex. He soon advanced, working for an appliance store for some years as a service tech. He has instilled many self-taught skills through practice, hard work and determination, increasing his skill level and capabilities.

After moving back to Maynardville last fall, the couple fell in love with the community atmosphere and decided to open up this business to offer Maynardville and Union County something it did not have, a used appliance sales and service store. The business is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Maynardville at 3935 Maynardville Highway, across from Booker’s II and beside the UT Extension office. There is an arrangement of inventory in the store including washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, and stoves, regularly. Sometimes you may find other appliances such as air conditioning units, freezers, and vent hoods offered. The store also services washers, dryers, stoves, and refrigerators, mainly.

Clint and Mandi have been married for five years and are very active in their community. The live on a houseboat at a local marina and attend Clear Springs Baptist Church in Corryton. They are members of both the Union County Chamber of Commerce and Business and Professionals Association. Mandi is a 6th grade special education teacher for the Tennessee Virtual Academy, and when she isn’t teaching or working at the store, she is an avid runner. In addition, she supports women in recovery from alcohol and drug use thru a program called Serenity and Clint has supported this ministry in multiple ways as well. Clint used to do some racing and they are both big fans of the Dallas Cowboys and Alabama Crimson Tide.

On July 11, 2019, the official ribbon cutting for the new business was held in the store. Many community members, neighboring businesses, local organization board members, and county officials attended in support and welcoming of the business into the community. Clint and Mandi’s Pastor presented them with a personal letter of blessing and lifted them up in prayer to get the ribbon cutting started, and Mandi said, “We are thankful for everyone who continues to pray for and support us. Hebrews 6:10, God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”

There is hope that the business will grow and thrive in supporting community needs. There are plans as well to increase inventory and expand the service department. Being in the service industry, the Walker’s get great joy knowing they are able to help people when they have a need. Because they can offer appliances and service at lower prices, they are able to help people in the community and surrounding areas to have a better quality of life.
