Get Your Morning Mojo at Liquid Lightning
It is a great time to be a coffee drinker in Maynardville. Whether you are waking up early headed to work, finishing up the morning school drop offs, or just plain love to guzzle coffee all day, with one sip you will be sure to add a new stop to your daily route. Liquid Lightning, a local veteran owned and operated coffee shop, has opened their doors and put the go-juice on to brew with a goal of bringing delicious coffee, lots of laughs, and a sense of joy and comfort to the community.
Mother-daughter duo, Brenda Watkinson and Amanda Tucker, commenced to brewing at the start of February. Brenda is an avid coffee drinker with experience as a business owner as well as past employment at Starbucks and freelancing as a barista. Her daughter, Amanda, who starts each morning with a plain latte, is a marine and wife of an active duty CW02. The pair is originally from Syracuse, New York, moving to Alaska in 1994. After Amanda’s travels with the Marine Corps, her family settled in the Powell community and her mother followed shortly after from Alaska to join them. Although Amanda’s husband is from the Corryton area, ultimately a friend, Peggy Gregg, introduced them to the location in Maynardville where they immediately fell in love with the community.
The inspiration behind the business was so that they could do something that they love, together. They wanted to create something that could be handed down to Amanda’s sons all the while making people around them happy and promoting community growth.
Promoting locality, you’ll find they sell Vienna Coffee which is roasted in Maryville, as well as fresh pastries. In addition to those tasty treats, they provide smoothies and cocoa. The lovely ladies love to keep lollipops for the kids and biscuits for the puppies on hand as well.
When a fresh cup of java would hit the spot, give the smiling ladies at Liquid Lightning a visit at 3570 Maynardville Highway, across from Fred’s. The drive thru and walk up are open 6am to 6pm Monday thru Friday, 9am to 6pm on Saturday, and 9am to 3pm on Sunday. Additionally, they plan to stay open late for home games. If you hurry in during February, you will have the opportunity to try the monthly special, a 12oz white chocolate, raspberry mocha, for only $3! Wake up with Liquid Lightning.
