If you know my daughter Sara, then you know how much she loves to fish. I can see why since she grew up fishing with her daddy. As for me, I went along on a fishing trip when I was kid. I thought it was going to be a fun adventure. Boy was I wrong.

I came today in my archives across a pamphlet of great historical interest to me. Mr. Clifford Stiner, prominent Union County resident, was the author. The pamphlet reveals Mr. Stiner’s occupations/hobbies/interests as historian, pilot, politician, newspaper editor, and author.

Coconut dream bars

Here is a different coconut bar cookie. You should have all the ingredients in your pantry and fridge. Substitute pecans for the walnuts, if desired. Mix all together until well blended. Press in bottom of lightly greased 9 by 13 inch baking pan. Beat eggs until light with mixer, Add sugars, salt and vanilla.. beat well. Add nuts and coconut. Spread over first mixture in pan. Bake at 350 F. for 15 minutes or until just set. Don't overbake. Cut in bars or small squares while still warm. Makes 3 dozen.

Halloween is almost here.
The frost is on the pumpkin.
Add apple pie and pecan, too.
Do your apple dunking.

A Deer’s Social Calendar

Socially, male and female white-tailed deer live separate lives except for a brief mating period in the fall. Bucks tend to hang in small groups amongst themselves, and does hang out with other females, along with their yearlings and fawns.

Halloween Fun with the Luttrell Sassy Seniors: 2nd Graders Bring Joy with Trick-or-Treating!

Excitement was in the air last week as the Luttrell Sassy Seniors were visited by some special guests. Second graders from Luttrell Elementary School brought Halloween joy to the seniors while dressed in their pajamas for spirit week bringing their trick-or-treating exhilaration with them. The seniors were delighted to dress up in imaginative outfits or wear a Halloween whimsical hat. And let us not forget our librarians who decorated to present a spooktacular atmosphere. The seniors were greeted with big smiles from the students and the seniors were ready to hand out delicious candies.

UCHS announces 2024 tennis team

Union County High School has a full slate of tennis players for the 2024 schedule.
Janae Chapell, Evelyn Gentry, Ava Tiller, Hannah Groot, Travyn Farmer, Scarlett Gwaltney, Nola Chesney, Ashlyn Tiller, and Ella Branscomb complete the girls roster.
Making the boys team are Dalton Schreieck, Nick Wilson, Jace Walker, Max Corum, Lathan Garner, and Jaxon Bailey. Mike Johnson is the coach.
The Union County High School tennis program is a member of Division 1, Class A, Region 1, District 2 under TSSAA. The season begins in March.

Heritage Festival Pie Contest winners

Dozens of pies lined the tables at the UT Extension Union County Conference Room as judges from the Union County Family and Consumer Education Association tasted and marked their ballots during the Heritage Festival Pie Contest.
Henley DeWitt received $100 and claimed the 2023 Grand Champion title with her pie Goodbye Summer Lemon Zinnia Pie. Kathy Venturella's Apple Pie garnered first place and $50 in the fruit category. Receiving second and third place ribbons were Ashley Mike’s Skillet Apple Pie and Mia Roach’s Key Lime Pie.
