One of the most highly acclaimed writers of gospel music, writing since he began his song writing journey in 1980, is Phil Cross. He is an award-winning singer, songwriter, mentor and producer with a passion to share his faith and experiences with the world. His music is well-known and well-loved.
A few of his best-known songs sung by various groups include “Champion of Love” (Cathedral Quarter), “When I Get Carried Away” (Gold City), Miracle in Me” (The Greenes) and one time Song of the Year “I Am Redeemed” (Poet Voices)
Phil Cross was honored at the 2021 National Quartet Convention (NQC). NQC is gospel music’s largest annual event, drawing 40,000 people from over 40 states and a half dozen countries to a week-long gospel music festival, featuring the very best in the world of traditional gospel music.
In 1991, Phil gathered other singers and formed Poet Voices. While there has been a change in personnel over the years, Poet Voices has remained a multi award-winning group with 5 best-selling albums.
In his past, Jeff Snyder (tenor) has been part of several gospel music bands including Crystal River out of Kodak, Tenn., The Bowling Family and The Greenes.
Jeff and the Bowling Family performed on a couple of Gaither Homecoming videos and sang a lot on TBNs Praise the Lord program. Although he has sung with several famous Southern Gospel groups, Jeff Snyder is now the worship leader at the Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church in Elizabethton. Jeff comes by his talent naturally. Raised in Owensboro, Ky., Jeff’s father was the song leader of the church the family attended and he and his brothers were often recruited for services.
K.C. Armstrong (bass) started out playing the trumpet in grade school but later discovered his real love was singing. After years of vocal training, he won a job singing with the Lake Junaluska Singers, a professional Christian ensemble based in the mountains of North Carolina. He studied at both the Western Carolina University and East Tennessee State University earning a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance.
K.C.’s father was active-duty Air Force, his grandfather served in the Army, and most of his uncles and cousins had been in service in the military. When J.C. found out that there were active-duty vocalist positions in the military, he auditioned for and was accepted by the Air Force Singing Sergeants in 1999. In 2004, he became a member of the US Army Chorus. K.C. has served under and performed for Presidents Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden. He retired from the US Army Chorus in 2019.
Donny Henderson (baritone) also hails from a musical family. His father, Don Henderson, is a professional singer who, at the age of 13, traveled with the Stoney Mountain Cloggers on the Grand Old Opry!
Henderson has been performing and recording Christian music for over a decade. In addition to numerous radio and television appearances, he has been featured on the cover of many leading gospel music publications. Career highlights include performances for many of the nation’s leading pastors and promoters including Dr. Bradley Price of King’s Way Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dr. John Hagee at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas.
Sharing the stage with such renowned artists as The Martins, The Talley Trio, The Crabb Family, The Oak Ridge Boys, Randy Travis, Kirk Talley and a host of others, Donny was also blessed to be a part of the Gaither Homecoming concerts and appears on several of the Homecoming videos.
Poet Voices continues to raise the bar in all aspects of its music and production, striving to provide a fresh and exciting concert experience each and every time. You can see them singing “Yes I Am” at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM3Lymc1BoY
