UCHS Boys Basket Ball competes in sub-state sectional

The Union County High School Boys Basketball Team achieved a milestone in 2024 by competing in the Class 3A Sub-state Sectional. The team's 22-11 win-loss record with a district record of 6-4 or 60% propelled the Patriots to a round 1 game with Cumberland Gap in the district tournament in Scott County. The team handily put away the Panthers 83-69. A loss to Clinton in the District Semi-final resulted in a game for 3rd place with the Scott County Highlanders.

UCHS Patriot Band concerts May 2, May 18

Teena Venable graduated from the University of Tennessee in May of 1977 and moved to Maynardville that August to start a band program for the schools. She discovered that there was a lot of musical talent in Union County.
At that time, the high school band was open to all grade levels. When she was starting out, Ms. Venable had eight students who already knew how to play and a small group of beginning musicians. Those eight students proudly marched in the 1977 Homecoming Parade.

UCHS tennis competes in district tournament

The UCHS Tennis Team competed in the TSSAA District Tournament. The young team garnered two All District Athletes, Dalton Schreieck and Jace Walker. Schreieck, a junior, competed in boys individuals and took his opponent to a tie breaker in the first match before losing the second match. Janae Chapell challenged in the first round of Girls Individuals. Hannah Groot and Scarlett Gwaltney and also Ava Tiller and Saria Chapell competed in Girls Doubles.

"Friday nights lights" is a phrase used quite often by many community members and fans as they talk about the excitement around their hometown football games.
Whether the team has a winning or losing streak for the year, there is a nostalgia surrounding Friday night lights.
High school students celebrate the event with face paint and cow bells, while the football players prepare themselves by wearing their jerseys to school that day.

UCHS Crowns Griffey and Defeats Sullivan East

September is a time of heading into fall festivals, football, and homecoming for communities like Maynardville. On Friday, September20, Maynardville held its annual Homecoming Parade and football game. The parade began at 5:30pm with some beautiful floats and homecoming queen candidates tossing candy to the crowds as they cruised the streets.

Patriots Seniors, Coach Ready to Win

Football season has kicked off for the Union County High School Patriots. There are several returning seniors this year into the program, which is in its third year under Coach Larry Kerr’s leadership. The team has been practicing on the field and in the weight room for several months and they are looking forward to an eventful season on the new turf field.

Emma Moyers Union County High School's Star Soccer Player

Union County High School’s star soccer player, Emma Moyers, broke the school’s scoring record with a whopping 41 goals. The Lady Patriot coach, Drew Richardson, claims that Moyers obtains a great amount of respect from him and hopes she one day would grant him the opportunity of helping mentor future and upcoming soccer players. Richardson also says that Emma has unbelievable talent. He is extremely hopeful that she stays on the path she is walking (or running) now. Moyers is ecstatic to hold the new record. She is most definitely “kicking” her way to the top.

Patriots Basketball Receives New Gym Floor

The Union County High School basketball team received a brand new gym floor. The floor replaced the old red border with a fresh new navy blue trim. The floor was designed by the basketball coaches, Roger Murphy and Shane Brown. In a recent interview with the boys basketball coach, Shane Brown said, "It was time for a new one." Coach Brown goes on to later say that it had been over ten years since the floor had been totally redone. A brand new floor and a brand new season for Union County basketball.
