Arthur Fortner, age 79 of Knoxville passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019. He faithfully attended Union Baptist Church. Arthur enjoyed gardening and had a great sense of humor and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Proceeded in death by parents Jobie and Macie Worley Fortner; father-in-law Emerson Mynatt. Survived by his wife of 47 years Carol Mynatt Fortner; daughter April Fortner Randolph (Blake); grandchildren Macie Randolph and Cooper Randolph; siblings Leta Fortner, Delores Welch, Leola Powell (George), Walter Fortner (Judy); several nieces and nephews.

James Carson (Jimmie) Gray of Halls, passed away Friday afternoon (April 26, 2019) at his home, just a few days shy of his 88th birthday (May 7th). Jimmie was a devoted husband, father, brother and papaw. He served during the Korean War and was a carpenter by trade. Jimmie enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting and spending time with his family. His love for his wife and daughters was evident in everything he did. Preceded in death by parents, Carlie V. Gray and Ada Hall Gray, siblings Helen Rutledge, Mae Rutledge, C.V. Gray, Robert Gray, Billy Gray.

James “Jimmy” F. Hill, age 56, went to be with his Lord on April 26, 2019. He was a member of Spring Place Presbyterian Church. He was a loving husband, father and brother. He was employed by Elavon and a former employee of Knoxville News Sentinel. Preceded in death by parents Howard and Margaret Hill, sister Rhonda Brady, brothers Jack Armes, Tommy Hill and Bill Hill. Survived by wife of 30 years Lisa Hill, son James Logan Hill, sister Katherine Strange, brother Mike Hill, many nieces and nephews along with many great nieces and nephews and daddy’s little buddy Chip.

Diane Marie Safgren-age 62 of Knoxville passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at U. T. Medical Center. Preceded in death by brother, Russell. She was formerly employed as a clerk with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Survivors: sons, Rob Brown, Tim Kitts and Josh Axton; grandchildren, Autumn, Tahlia, Robert, Miracle, Jewel and Kalel.

Family and friends will meet at 2:45 P.M. Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Bethany Church Cemetery, Raccoon Valley Road for a 3 P.M. graveside service. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.

On April 25, 2019, in Knoxville, TN, Arlie Edward “Bud” Church, age 97, entered his well-deserved eternal rest. He was a long-standing member of Knoxville Primitive Baptist Church. He was born in Whitesburg, KY on May 20, 1921. He volunteered for the Army in 1940 where he remained until the end of World War II. His units landed at Utah beach June 12, 1944. He participated in the Liberation of France, Battle of the Bulge and continued on to Germany for the hard-fought victory the allies had long sought. After returning home he married the love of his life June Church.

William S. (Billy) Buckner age 62 of Luttrell passed away suddenly Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Preceded in death by father and mother, Curtis and Freda Mae (Washam) Buckner; siblings: Louella, Drucella, and Boyd.

Miriam Glenn (Graves) Walker – age 87 of Maynardville, passed away on April 25, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Born November 25, 1931, she believed in the Truth as it is in Jesus with those of like precious faith.

Cheryl Williams Treece age 62 of Knoxville passed away Friday, April 19, 2019 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Preceded in death by parents: Benjamin and Ellen Williams, Husband of 20 years; Winfred Treece, sister; Carolyn McNair, Niece; Anna Thomas and great granddaughter; Aubrianna Neal. Survivors; son, Oscar (Michelle) Jackson; Daughter, Shantale McWilson, special friend; Chris Russell, best friend; Mrs. Charlotte, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Harley “Stuart” Garrett, age 88 of Calhoun, Georgia, formerly of Knoxville passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at his residence. He graduated from Central High School, then went to East TN State University where he obtained Bachelor of Science and obtained his Master’s degree in music from Peabody University. He retired from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as a Cataloging Librarian and Associate Professor after 30 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Knoxville. Preceded in death by parents Arthur D. and Agnes Lorena (Bright) Garrett, brothers Arthur L.

Ronnie “Bo” Lewis, age 45, of Knoxville, passed away on April 24, 2019.
His first two words were “I Bo”, and the nickname stuck forever. Bo loved Tennessee Football
and was an All-American guy.
Bo is preceded in death by his “Nona” Bernice Jones/Butler; uncles Jerry Jones and Johnny
Jones; and cousin Kerry Brummett.
He is survived by daughter Cierra Lewis; son Chase Lewis; grandchildren Liam and Farrah;
mother Carolyn “Randi” Summers; step-father Kenneth Summers; brother Jay Smith; niece

Jeanette C. Mahan, age 75, of Anderson County, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2019. She is survived by children Lynn Hewitt, Jeffery Weaver, and Clyde Mahan; grandsons Dustin Ray Hewitt and Travis Shawn Hewitt; granddaughters Cassandra Frye and Whitney Mahan; great-granddaughter Grace Cox; and brother Roy Childress; special son-in-law Frank Courrier. Stanley "Shorty" Max Joyce, age 82, passed away on April 20, 2019. He was of Baptist Faith. He served his country valiantly in the U.S. Army. Stanley retired from the Knox County School Janitorial Department.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Newt and Edna Joyce; brothers, Robert, Kayo and James; and sisters, Mildred, Zelma, Mayme, Jenny and Lockey. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda Joyce; daughter, Rhonda Womack (Guy); grandchildren, Joshua Womack (Miranda) and Ashley Duffey (Luke); great-grandchild, Baby Duffey; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Alice Annalou Lody Guinn-age 81 of Maynardville, born September 9, 1937 passed away Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019 at Willow Ridge Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Maynardville. Preceded in death by mother, Trula Lody; father, Cecil Lody; sister, Lena Mae Tharp; brother-in-law, Fred (Red Eye) Tharp; grandparents, John E. and Lennie Monroe.

Survivors: daughter, Dyane Lody; grandson, Blake Hopson along with five great-grandchildren. Nephews: Denny, Conley, Randy, Fred Allen and Charlie Tharp and their families. Special aunt, Bobbie Johnson and several cousins.

Jason Mathew Dobbins, born April 15, 1977, passed away April 19, 2019, losing his battle to cancer. He was a member of Sutherland Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by mother Jackie Juanita Maples Dobbins, and grandmothers Dorothy Maples and Lorene Doane. Survived by father Sammy Dobbins, son Cody Cummings, daughters Jayla and Jaylan Dobbins, step son Isaac Mashburn, brother Sammy Dobbins Jr., sister Dottie Maples, and girlfriend Sara Cunningham.

Helen Maples Foust, age 86 of Knoxville, passed away on April 22, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie C. and Dorothy E. Maples. Helen is survived and will be greatly missed by her sons, Steven R. Tallent and Charles A. Monroe; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; as well several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 25th from 5:00-7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel. Friends and family will gather at Joppa Cemetery on Friday, April 26th at 9:45am for a 10:00am interment, Rev. Donald Daniels officiating.

Dorothea Elizabeth Cox – age 90 of Maynardville, went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2019. She was a longtime member of Milan Baptist Church. Dorothea enjoyed reading her Bible and enjoyed her friends at the Union County Senior Citizen Center. She was a retired nurse from San Joaquin Hospital in Bakersfield, California.

Ralph Robert Lane, age 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 19, 2019, after a brief struggle with cancer. He was of Baptist faith. A wise saint once said, “The stronger a man is, the more gentle he can afford to be.” If that is true, then Ralph Robert Lane was one of the strongest men in the world. Ralph was a kind and gentle soul, with a generous and giving spirit. He was a man who brought out the best in all who were around him.

Joyce Louise Ridener, age 80, of Knoxville passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2019. She was a member of Valley View Baptist Church. She was a Devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her and her husband loved traveling together. Preceded in death by husband Bob Ridener; parents Ennis and Glenna Robertson; and sister Bobbie Henderson. Survived by sons Mike Ridener and Ronnie (Brenda) Ridener; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Donna (Ronnie) McConkey; as well as a niece and nephews; and cousin Jeanne Rose.
