Christmas Blizzard of 2021 by Virginia Burgener

My favorite Christmas memory is during a mini blizzard in 2021. It all started at Mamaw’s on Christmas Eve. I took the dogs out one last time before we left for Mamaw’s to spend Christmas eve with her. Once we got there it started to snow.

After we opened gifts and then we went outside to see if there was enough snow for a snowball fight. There wasn't enough snow so we went inside to get warm and drink hot cocoa. Then daddy checked the weather and said, “The snow is not going to stop anytime soon we should go.” After lots of protests we said our good-byes and loaded into the car.

Daddy started to pull out of the driveway and then the left tire slowly started to go down…… Daddy had pulled into the ditch. Both my big sister and brother got out of the car and sat on the hood as daddy and my uncle pushed down where my siblings were sitting. Slowly the left tire started to lift and finally we were off heading to tend a friend's dogs. (His house is fifteen minutes away, but it took an hour to get there in the snow.)

The snow was falling really hard now so daddy and my brother got some shovels and scooped out all the snow in the driveway. Afterwards daddy put the “borrowed” shovels into the car. We started to head back home when we got stuck again then decided to stay at Nana and Grandpa’s house for the night.

So, we started heading that way. Once we got to Nana and Grandpa’s Road we got stuck again and again. So, daddy parked at the beginning of the road, and we walked with a two-month-old puppy and a two-year-old toddler up a hill and down a hill all the way to Nana and Grandpa’s house.

Once we got there, we stomped off all the snow and went inside. Most of us stood by the heaters and placed our shoes underneath. Once we all went and go get ready for bed. (I was the only one who brought extra clothes.) We told everyone goodnight and went to bed.

The next morning, we ate cereal for breakfast, opened gifts and left. Once we got home, we opened gifts from Mama and Daddy. Then we watched a Christmas movie and went to bed because we all were very tired.

Although I am certain that it was not funny at the time, it is a wonderful memory to have. You all persevered!!
