Local Author Jim Hartsell Releases New Title in Spanish
The Boy and His Mountain, by multi-published author Jim Hartsell, has just been released in both English and Spanish. Hartsell’s other children’s titles, The Box of Toys and Father and Sister Radish and the Rose-Colored Glasses, are also now available in both languages. The three books deal with the topics of friendship, generosity, and a child’s view of the world, and are written to help initiate conversations between young children and the adults who care for them.
Hartsell is a native East Tennessean currently living at the foot of House Mountain. He spends his days writing, doing volunteer work, enjoying time with his wife of almost 40 years, and his ever-expanding family. The rhythm and cadences of the Southeast are evident in both Hartsell’s written and spoken voice.
The author spent his professional career working with teenagers on the fringes of society and says the work gave him a glimpse into the complexities of the struggles, both inner and outer, that many people cope with on a regular basis. He says his children’s books were inspired by the arrival of grandchildren, and are written to help foster conversations between young children and the adults who care for them.
