US Census 2020 extended to October 31
The pandemic has delayed the house-to-house contact for the US Census until August 11, 2020. According to the website the census will extend to October 31.
But Mayor Gary Chandler challenges the citizens of Plainview to complete the US Census 2020 and avoid the “knock at the door.”
Says Mayor Chandler, ”Download a form, go online, or use your phone for 10 minutes to complete the form.” He continues, “Every bit of government funding and representation is affected by the population in some way. Plainview needs everyone counted. But we need a response rate of 80% to receive our share of government funding for roads, education, and services for our citizens.”
Plainview's census response rate stands at 68.6%. Currently the national response rate is 62.6% with Tennessee slightly behind at 61.9%. Union County is lagging behind at 57.3%. Luttrell (57.8%) and Maynardville (58.8%) are outpacing the county.
Go to US Census 2020 to respond and complete the census. Local libraries are available to help.
The US Constitution requires everyone residing in the United States to complete a census form and be counted.
