Oven Hamburgers and Gravy

Ground beef is a favorite of mine. There are many ways to flavor an economical ground beef dish for supper. This recipe fancies up the ground beef and makes a delicious gravy. Add some mashed potatoes, fix a green salad and supper is ready.

OVEN BAKED HAMBURGERS & GRAVY
1 pound lean ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tablespoon minced green pepper
1/2 cup milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
Salt and pepper
3 tablespoons flour
2 cups water
1 tablespoon catsup

Mix ground beef, onion, green pepper, bread crumbs, egg, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Form into patties and brown on both sides in 1 tablespoon shortening in skillet over medium heat. Remove patties to greased shallow baking dish. Make gravy with drippings remaining in skillet by adding flour and stirring to brown slightly. Add water, stirring constantly. Add catsup and season to taste with salt and pepper. Pour gravy over meat. Cover and bake at 350 F. for 30 minutes.
