Frosted Peanut Butter Bars

Bars are the easiest cookies to make. This one looks fancy but is easy to make. I like peanut butter and hope you do, too.

FROSTED PEANUT BUTTER BARS
Bars:
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups plain flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk

Frosting:
2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup shortening
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1/3 to 1/2 cup milk

Topping:
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon snortening

In mixing bowl, cream together peanut butter, shortening and brown sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture. Add milk. Mix well. Spread dough out onto greased 15 by 10 by 1 inch jelly roll pan. Bake at 350 for 16 to 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted bear center comes out clean. Cool. For frosting, in mixing bowl, cream peanut butter, shortening and powdered sugar. Gradually beat in enough milk to achieve spreading consistency. Frost bars. Last of all, melt chocolate chips and shortening together. Stir until smooth. Drizzle over frosting. Refrigerate. Cut into bars. Makes 5 dozen.
