Eagle Eye

It wasn’t my first choice for a vacation spot, but it was Tim’s. You see, he wanted to get away for a few days and do some fishing. I was in agreeance until he suggested going to Lake Logan. While I am a farm girl, I still like my modern conveniences.
Lake Logan is where I attended Storytelling camp. It is an absolutely beautiful place that lies a few miles south of Canton, NC. It is mainly used for retreats and camps, which means no TV in the rooms, spotty cell phone reception, and Wi-Fi availability in limited places. Plus, it was a good eight-minute drive back to a restaurant and the Dollar Store
Finally, I agreed and gave in. I told Tim, “I’ll write while you fish.” So, each day, I carried my computer down to the lake and sat in a chair while he stood on the dock and fished. Needless to say, that didn’t work. It was too peaceful and quiet for me. I literally couldn’t think. Instead, I walked around and took some beautiful pictures. But the one time I needed to have my cell phone camera ready, I was on my computer.
While we were out on the dock, Tim saw a snake swimming toward us. He became a little upset until it turned and swam the other way. I think he was ready to throw his fishing rod in the lake and run. A few minutes later something caught my eye and I looked up to see a bald eagle flying our way. We had seen it at the lake before, but we hadn’t seen it on this trip. We even wondered if it had moved to another lake.
I was so taken back by its mere presence and majesty, that all I could do was point and stutter, “L.l.look!!”
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
I think Isaiah used the image of the Eagle because it represents power, strength, and majesty. And that imagery also represents Jesus and His Resurrection. Best of all, that is a power we as Believers can tap into. So, tap into it and soar!
Looking back now at the scene on the dock, I have to laugh. As I was stuttering and pointing, Tim was hopping from foot to foot and yelling, “Where!” While he was doing his dance, the eagle soared by behind him. I am talking a few feet from the back of his head. After Tim finally spotted the eagle, he said, “Dad blame your hide. I thought you had seen the snake!”
Sometimes you just gotta laugh and praise the Lord.
