"Crazy Woman!"

Word to the wise: “You just never know who is listening.”
Some of you already know this about me, but for those of you who don’t, my mother is an absolute hoot. When I was in high school, some of my friends would call and ask, “Is your mom there? I’d like to talk to her.” You know, I kinda got used to it.
When I started dating Tim, I warned him ahead of time about Mom’s personality because I didn’t want it to scare him away. Let’s face it, not everyone is comfortable with somebody who likes to make jokes all of the time. Fortunately for me, it had the opposite effect. Tim enjoyed her sense of humor so much that he came up with a nickname for her: “Crazy Woman.” My mom loved her new nickname. In fact, I think she was rather proud of it. I’m surprised she didn’t buy a T-shirt and have that put on the front of it.
It never occurred to any of us that “Crazy Woman” would almost get Tim in trouble.
He would come out and visit me during the week. Usually he’d call first, but this one evening he decided surprise us. Being unaware of his plan, Mom was watching TV and I had my record player going. This was a few years before CDs were introduced. And it was winter time, so we had all the windows and doors closed.
Tim knocked on the front door, but we couldn’t hear him. He knocked again, and we still couldn’t hear him. Finally, he pounded on the door and yelled, “Open the door you crazy woman!”
Our next-door neighbor heard Tim loud and clear.
“In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,” Titus 2:7 (KJV)
As Believers, were are held to the Lord’s standard, which is higher than the worlds. And the world knows it. You would probably be surprised at how many people are watching you every day. When I was teaching Sunday school and children’s church, you better believe I watched everything I did and said, even outside of church.
After we finally heard Tim, we let him inside. That’s when our neighbor called said, “I just heard somebody banging on your door and yelling: ‘Open the door Crazy Woman.' Do I need to call the police?”
I'm glad our neighbor called and checked on us first. Wouldn’t that have been fun to explain to the police.
By the way, the picture of “Crazy Woman” and Tim was taken back in 1985, right before we were married.
