Letter to commissioners warns to heed the law

Mayor Jason Bailey reported that he had received complaints of harassment from some county employees and public officials. Since County Attorney David Myers is a contracted employee, he could not offer advice due to a conflict of interest.
Bailey consulted H. Stephen Gillman, attorney from Pryor Priest Harbor, who is also representing the county in the lawsuit brought by the Union County Historical Society.

Board approves bullying prevention program

The Union County Board of Education met on October 3.
The elementary schools will be participating in a bullying prevention and child abuse prevention program called Child Safety Matters. The program is funded by a grant and is recommended by the Coordinated School Health Program. The board unanimously approved the program on Union County School Superintendent Jimmy Carter's recommendation.

The 13th Annual Union County Heritage Festival

The 13th Annual Union County Heritage Festival "Come Here, Come Home", with over 5,000 in attendance, was a great success and had something for everyone. The festival included various activities and vendors at Wilson Park, student and fine art shows at the Historic Snodderly House, a photography show at the Chamber of Commerce, and a quilt and author’s show at the museum.

Union County Heritage Festival Keeps on Growing

It's almost that time of year again, time for folks to get together in Maynardville for good food, good company, good music and plenty of old-time pass-times at the Union County Heritage Festival, to be held Saturday, Oct. 7.

This is the festival's 13th year, and festival president Marilyn Toppins has been involved in some capacity, from stage management to parking, for 12 of those years. This is her third year as president, and she remembers how the festival got its start.
