Von E. Richardson

Von E. Richardson, age 86, of Maynardville passed away peacefully December 6, 2021, at his home. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and a lifetime member of J. C. Baker Lodge #720 F. & A.M. Preceded in death by his parents Luther and Susie Richardson; infant sister, Ruth Richardson; and brothers Willie E. “Bill” Richardson and Herbert E. “Smiley” Richardson.
Von is survived by his wife Edith; sons Jeff (Susan) Richardson and Roger (Robin) Richardson; grandchildren, Amanda Farmer, Nathan Richardson and Jessica Muncey; and five great grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by step-children Bobby, Mike, Lisa, Tim and Kellie Helton; 13 step-grandchildren and 27 step-great grandchildren; twin brother Don Richardson and brother Kyle (Ann) Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Much of Von’s life was dedicated to public service. Beginning in 1968 he served six years as Union County Sheriff, followed by eight years as Union County Judge, presiding over both juvenile and probate courts, and an additional four years as Union County Executive. His sage advice and calm demeanor benefitted many and will be truly missed by those who were fortunate to know him.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8th, at Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville, TN. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9th, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Rev. Fred Goodson, Rev. Brian Cooke officiating with music by the Cedar Grove Quartet. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Maynardville. Pallbearers: Chase Shoffner, Wendell Padgett, Bruce Britt, Jeff Richardson, Roger Richardson, Phillip Richardson. Honorary Pallbearers: Earl “Frog” Cox, Paul Hill, Kenny Hill, Glenn Cooke, Billy Joe Henderson, Darrell Irick. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
