Rev. Dr. William Richard Vick

Rev. Dr. Richard Vick-age 86 of Ruskin, Florida, formerly of Maynardville passed away 4:15 P.M. Monday, June 22, 2020 at Life Path Hospice in Florida. He was born February 13, 1934 the son of the late Homer and Lena (Hall) Vick. Preceded in death by wife of 47 years, Dr. Joyce Gaye (Pickens) Vick; grandchildren, Amy, Kathryn and Levi. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War serving October, 1951-January, 1955.
Survivors include children, Vicki Lynn (Barry) Rumsey, Janice Carol (John) Ramsey, Joe Richard (Kathy) Vick, Rebecca Sue (David) Metts, Jeffry Scott Vick; 17 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren. Wife, Florine Watts Vick.
Dr. Vick was the pastor/founder of Nolensville Road Baptist Church, Nashville 1960-1964; Missionary to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 1964-1975; founded Bole Road Baptist Church; missionary to Stavanger, Norway 1975-1977; Pastor of First Baptist Church, Atwater, Ohio 1977-1978; Mission representative of Baptist Evangelistic Missionary Association, Akron, Ohio 1979-1985; founder of NABMA/BIO (North American Baptist Missionary Association) in Savannah, Georgia, Lenoir City where the name was changed to Baptist International Outreach, Maynardville and Jefferson City, Tennessee. Retired from active ministry in 2005.
Along the way he taught missions in Bible Colleges (BBC, Midwestern and Crown) and was a friend, influencer and mentor to pastors and missionaries in the USA, Ethiopia and around the world. He was and is known for his love of Ethiopia (because of his love of Ethiopians), his love of preachers and missionaries and his well-loved, often used, catch phrase, “GOD LOVES PEOPLE”.
The family will receive friends 5-7 P.M. Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Faith Baptist Church, 118 Colossians Court, Jefferson City, TN 37760, with funeral service to follow at 7 P.M. Tuesday, Rev. Mark Campbell, Rev. Eric Vick, Rev. Joe Vick, Dr. John Yingling, Dr. Barry Rumsey officiating with congregational music. A private interment will be held 10 A.M. Wednesday, July 1, 2020, Pleasant View Cemetery, Maynardville with Rev. Major Joshua Rumsey officiating. Military graveside honors will be presented Tri-County Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
