Ossie Irwin, Jr.
Ossie Irwin, Jr., affectionately known as “Papaw”, was born on June 4, 1945, and peacefully passed away on November 27, 2024. A devoted family man and cherished friend, Ossie’s life was marked by his unwavering love for his family, his faith, and his passion for music. He proudly served in the U. S. Army from 1965 – 1971, where he demonstrated his commitment to his country. Ossie was a dedicated member of New Beverly Baptist Church, where his faith guided him and inspired those around him. A true lover of music, Ossie found joy in playing the guitar, sharing his gift with family and friends throughout the years. His warm spirit and gentle demeanor made him a beloved figure in the lives of many. Ossie will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we celebrate Ossie’s life, we find peace in knowing he is now home with Jesus and reunited with the love of his life, Anna.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Anna Jane Irwin; parents, Ossie and Ella (Jones) Irwin; brothers, Carl and Billy Irwin; sisters, Dorothy Ann Irwin, Wilma Flatford and Linda Patterson; granddaughter, Amy Overton Morse; and son-in-law, Scott Reed. Ossie leaves behind a loving family, including children, Tammy (Larry) Peace, Rhonda Irwin, Tina Irwin, Sue (David) Overton, Janie Ingram, Joe (Karen) Peace, Charlotte (Rick) Howard and Lisa (Lynn) Little; grandchildren, Kayla (Cory) England, Taylor (Josh) Brown, Cody Flatford, Hayley McDaniel, Hallie McDonald, Billy (Cheyenne) Hill, Emily Overton, Jacob Ingram, C. J. (Tosha) Peace, Amanda (Jason) Muncey, Vanessa (Brad) Fowler, Valerie (A. J.) Bales, Marcus (Kayla) Little, Dakota (Katie) Pledge and Noah (Kayla) Little; he also leaves behind 20 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and special friends and neighbors, Andy and Brittany Sellers. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the lunch crew at Shoney’s on Broadway for their kindness and care during Papaw’s daily visits, which brought him much joy and fellowship.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 1, 2024 in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel. The service to follow with Reverend Rich Howard officiating and music provided by son-in-law, Lynn Little. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and celebrate the life of a remarkable man, 2:30 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2024 at Trinity to proceed to New Loyston Memorial Gardens for a 3:30 p.m. graveside service.
