Jerry "Slug" Smith
Jerry Allen “Slug” Smith - age 75 of Maynardville, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 25, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He worked as a diesel mechanic for 35 years at Atlas Copco in Knoxville and Nashville and later was a beloved bus driver of bus 16. He was known by many as “Slug”.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bert Smith Jr. and Martha Smith; and his brother, Bobby Smith. Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janie (Raley) Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jody (Day) Smith and son, Jody A. (Joe) Smith; granddaughters, Breanna and Brylee Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Trish and Jerry Widener; sister-in-law, Karen (Raley) Inklebarger and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank U.T. Hospice for the care and love shown to Jerry and Janie and the family.
Friends may call at their convenience 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Trinity. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2025 in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel. The service to follow with Reverend Jeremy Bridges, Sr., Reverend Joe Nicley and Reverend Ronnie McBee officiating with music provided by Eddie and Barbara Smith. Immediately following the service family and friends will proceed to Big Barren Cemetery for the graveside service. Serving as pallbearers will be Travis Hutchison, Tim Bailey, Brian Smith, Jody (Joe) Smith, Chris Maples and Chris Irick. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Smith and Harold Webb.
