James Earl "Jamie" Mathes

James “Jamie” Mathes – age 52 of Corryton, TN born December 5, 1972 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. He was a loving husband, father, son and brother that loved to help coach his sons baseball team. He loved fishing and hunting. He was an avid gemologist and enjoyed cutting these stones he dug up and found on his own. He graduated from Tennessee School of the Deaf with honors and was a Hall of Fame inductee of 2024.

Those left to cherish the memory of Jamie are his wife, Brandy Farris Mathes; sons, Jaden, Eli and Sebastian Mathes, all of Knoxville, TN, Matthew and Andrew Mathes, all of Gate City, VA; Remington Moore of Dardanelle, Arkansas; Parents, Nancy S. and Jackie Mathes of Elizabethton, TN; mother-in-law, Delores Casteel and husband Charles of Greeneville, TN; brother, Chuck Helbling of Pinehurst, NC; sisters, Becky Mathes of Elizabethton, TN, Marie Proffitt and husband Greg of Jonesborough, TN; nieces, Heather Range and Crystal Range Burnside all of Jonesborough, TN; great nephew, James, Jr.; great-nieces, Amirah. Ja’Liyah, Siriyah; aunt, Nancy E. Mathes; cousins, Chris Mathes and wife Melissa, Tim Mathes and wife Robin; close friends, Coach Dick Henley, Penny Oaks, Karisha Hurlbut, Larry Little, Randy Austin, Perry Cobb; fishing buddy, Jesse Harrison; childhood friend, Matt Simerly; everyone at the National Bass Association of the Deaf (NBAD); many deaf and hearing friends in the Knoxville, Elizabethton and Johnson City areas.

Family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Buffat Heights Baptist Church, 2800 Mill Road, Knoxville TN 37924, with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Dave Thomas. Interment service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Happy Valley Memorial Park, 2708 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City TN 37601, officiated by Pastor Jason Hartley. Pallbearers will be, CJ Mathes, Tim Mathes, Scott Osborne, Matt Simerly, Larry Little, Stephen Barnes, Jessee Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be, Chris Mathes, Chuck Helbling, Greg Proffitt, Perry Cobb, Jason Dotson, David Rector, Chucky Casteel, Carlos Hatmaker. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery on Friday at 1:45 PM. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary in Maynardville.
