Harry A. Waddington

Harry A. Waddington-age 94 formerly of Luttrell, TN passed away Sunday morning, May 14, 2017 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a long time resident of Luttrell, TN, and member of Cedar Ford Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for 30 years and church treasurer. A veteran of WWII, he served with C Company, 30th Infantry Regiment, and 3rd Division Battle Patrol and Headquarters Company 30th Infantry Regiment I and R Platoon 3rd Division. Harry was part of the offensive forces that invaded Anzio Beach in Italy and captured Rome. He participated in the invasion of Southern France and continued on through France, Germany and Austria. Harry attained the rank of Sergeant.
Harry was a merchant and farmer. He and his wife owned and operated Rucker’s Supermarket and IGA in Luttrell for 34 years. He was a member of JC Baker Lodge #720 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite 32nd degree mason; Order of the Eastern Star, Corryton Chapter #337; the VFW; and served as Soil Conservation Supervisor of Union County for 18 years.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Dorothy Rucker Waddington; a son, Harry Jr.; his parents, Herbert and Frennie Waddington; two sisters, Feril Keys and Ruth Chesney. He is survived by his son, Larry (Erin) Waddington of Greensboro, GA; daughter, Karen (Bob) Keller of Angola, IN; grandchildren, Lauren (Dan) Curry, John (Megg) Waddington, Courtney N. Keller and step granddaughter, Jennifer Hennelly; great grandchildren, Elise and Nathan Curry. Several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends 5-7 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2017 with funeral service to follow at 7 P.M. Thursday, Cedar Ford Baptist Church, Luttrell, Rev. Jeff Leach, Rev. A. R. Baumgardner officiating with music by Melba Greene and Wynn Greene. Family and friends will meet 9:45 A.M. Friday, May 19, 2017 at Lynnhurst Cemetery, Knoxville for military graveside service at 10 A.M. presented by Tri-County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Nephews.
