Bert "Black" Smith, Jr.
Bert “Black” Smith, Jr. passed away at his home surrounded by family on December 31, 2021. He was a member of Chestnut Grove Church. Bert worked at East Tennessee Packing Company, TMSI and was a beloved bus driver.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Martha Ann Smith; son, Bobby Smith; parents, Bert, Sr. and Gertie Smith; brothers, Jack, Herbert, Sam, Walt, Frank, John and Lee Smith. Bert is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Janie Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Trish and Jerry Widener; grandchildren, Brian and wife, Jody L. Smith; Jody “Joe” A. Smith, Hunter and Tasha Raley; great grandchildren, Breanna and Brylee Smith and Tiahna Raley; girlfriend of 12 years Eunice Burnette; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express a special thank you to Sun Crest Hospice for all the special care and to Dr. Brent Neal.
The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 3, 2022 in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel. The service to follow with Reverend Joe Nicley and Reverend Ronnie McBee officiating. Family and friends will meet 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Trinity Funeral Home to go in procession to Big Barren Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service.
