Amy Marie Coffey Smith
Amy Marie Coffey Smith, age 47, of Maynardville, Tennessee, passed away at home on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Amy was born April 28, 1975. She attended Big Ridge Elementary School, J. Frank White Academy, and Lincoln Memorial University where she earned a Bachelor Degree in Visual Art in 1996. In later years, she returned to teach at Big Ridge Elementary and to serve in multiple positions at Lincoln Memorial University including the role as Director of Alumni Services. She also worked in the Joyner Library at East Carolina University.
Amy was a talented artist with diverse interests that included creative writing, acrylic and oil painting, metal jewelry-making, decorating for the seasons and holidays. She had a keen eye for design and the ability to make a home uniquely hers in style and taste. She was a gifted photographer of unique items, and the beauty of nature inspired her. She was passionate about music, Broadway plays, museums, and history. Amy could often be found reading a good book. She enjoyed flower cultivating and vegetable gardening. She was an excellent cook and baker who loved to try new recipes, and she especially loved to sample all types of exotic foods. Amy also loved to travel, and her adventures have taken her to many diverse locations such as the islands of Hawaii; camping in the Outer Banks of North Caroline; Biltmore Estates where she experienced “stomping the grapes”; Nashville, Tennessee; Biloxi, Mississippi; Cherokee, North Caroline; New York City; New Orleans; Las Vegas; Jamaica; the Grand Cayman Islands; Mexico; England; France; and Ireland. Her most recent trip was to Hilton Head, South Carolina. She loved the soil of East Tennessee and especially the beauty of Norris Lake where she enjoyed all aspects of lake living and home.
She was a cherished, beloved only child who had a beautiful smile that was contagious and will not soon be forgotten.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Edna and Floyd Loy and Maxine and Bill Max Coffey.
She is survived by her mother Pearl Loy Coffey; father Bill M. Coffey; uncle Earl J. Amy was a member of Miller’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Miller’s Chapel United Methodist, located at 2719 Maynardville Highway, Maynardville, Tennessee. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at their convenience at Cooke-Campbell Mortuary in Maynardville or between 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Miller’s Chapel.
