Two of Union County’s ladies were recognized for 50 years of membership in FCE. Kaye Robb Whaley and Brenda Effler Williams were recognized at the Union County Spring Luncheon held in Sharps Chapel. They both are members of the Big Ridge Club. They have seen many changes over those 50 years and quite a few extension agents. The various name changes started with Home Demonstration Club, Homemakers and now to the current name FCE (Family Education Club). This is a branch of the UT Extension Office.

Kaye Robb Whaley was brought to the club as a child by her mother Doris Marrie Faires. She has belonged to the Big Ridge Club since she was raised in Big Ridge and is the daughter of James Allen Robb the Superintendent of Big Ridge State Park for 25 years. Kaye has been married to Jimmy Whaley for 48 years and resides on Chestnut Ridge. They have three children: Dr. Robb Whaley, Gina Whaley Reed and Leif Whaley. They are the proud grandparents of 17 grandchildren. Kaye is a proud Christian and a member of Salem Baptist Church. She is the one to offer the blessings at our gatherings before we eat. She can be lengthy with her prayer and was asked one time, “Kaye have you not prayed in a while.” She just retired from teaching Sunday School for 37 years. She is famous for her hats and always friendly to everyone. You may see her along Loyston Road picking up trash in her neighborhood.

Kaye helps the Big Ridge Club at the Annual Bluegrass Festival when the club sells baked goods and drinks. This is a homecoming for her every year. It’s extra special now as she has two grandsons who perform regularly.

Brenda Effler Williams also received recognition for her 50 years of membership. She has belonged to the Big Ridge Club for all 50 years. Brenda is married to Randall Williams and they attend Macedonia Baptist Church. They have two children: Quinton Williams and Angie Williams Tibbs. They are grandparents of two and great grandparents of three. Brenda is a great cook and loves flowers.
