Veterans Menu April 1
American Legion Post 212
Calling all Veterans! What better way to celebrate April Fool’s Day than to be at the American Legion building at noon to feast on Veteran Volunteer Margo McCaffery’s Famous American Goulash! Sometimes called slumgullion, American goulash is a comfort food dish based on the Hungarian goulash stew. The ground beef, tomato and macaroni are in a beautifully seasoned tomato sauce. Shredded cheese and sour cream will be available for garnish.
Volunteer April Howse is offering not one but two salad accompaniments. One will include a combination of Romaine and iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onion and croutons AND a SECOND will be a delicious mozzarella/tomato/basil salad. Yum! There will be yeast rolls as well.
No dinner is complete without a tasty dessert and Nancy and Steve Westfeld have planned to make a sugar free Strawberry Poke Cake! For those unfamiliar with this dessert, it is a cake that is has been poked full of holes - on purpose and with purpose. The baker pierces the top of the freshly baked cake and then pours something over the cake to run down into those holes, settle, and soak. In this cake, that will be strawberries! If you go away hungry, it will be your own fault!
So, Veterans, plan to be at the American Legion building on April 1 at noon for a real treat! The price is right – it’s FREE! Chat with other Veterans and meet the Veteran Volunteers who love to cook for you! And, if you can, plan to stay for the American Legion meeting at 1:00! We support our Veterans!
