UT Field Days for 2022 Announced
The University of Tennessee hosts field days each year across the state as fun, educational tours for farmers, professionals, and educators to take part in. The 2022 dates have been released and it reads to be a knowledge packed year for producers across the state! There are nineteen in-person and online events planned as a showcase of the work done by AgResearch.
Lets glance at the field days which kickoff with Horse Management on February 8 on UTIA Knoxville Campus, which also hosts in the Western and Central Regions later in the month. Moving into April, Organic Farming and Gardening will be on the 28th at the East Tennessee AgResearch Organic Crops Unit. Just a couple days later on April 30, the Tennessee Healthy Hardwood field day will be held at Forest Resources AgResearch Center at Highland Rim.
Heading into the summer, Fruits of the Backyard is scheduled for June 14 at the Middle Tennessee AgResearch Center at Spring Hill. The very next day, June 15, travel out to Jackson for the Weed Tour.
Green Industry Day will be Tuesday, June 28. Tobacco, Beef, & More wraps up June on the 30th at Highland Rim. Summer Celebration is a producer favorite and will be on July 14 this summer in Jackson. July 28, No–Till Day is planned in Milan.
Probably the most popular, Steak and Potatoes field day, is to be held August 26 at Crossville; this is probably not the first time you are hearing about this one. The next week the Fall Gardener’s Festival will take place on August 30 at the same location.
A more non-traditional event is the UT Arboretum Butterfly Festival. This is a very unique event that you will not want to miss on September 17, just down the road at the Arboretum Auditorium at Oak Ridge. Later in September, the Cotton Tour will be in Jackson on 21st. Packing one more fantastic event into the perfect weathered month, is the Beef Cattle and Forage Crops Field Day in Spring Hill on the 23rd.
Kicking off October is the two-day event, Northeast Tennessee Beef Expo on the 13th and 14th just a short drive away in Greeneville. Many Union County beef producers have attended this event over the years as a part of the Master Beef program. That is an opportunity offered each year for credits, contact the local ag agent, Shannon DeWitt, for info at 865-992-8038.
The Woods and Wildlife event is on October 20 this year in Oliver Springs with the Beef Heifer Development School scheduled the following day at the Middle Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center.
There will be two virtual field days held in 2022. Turf Tuesdays will take place every Tuesday online. You can find more information at tiny.utk.edu/TurfTuesday. UT Extension and AgResearch give so many opportunities each year for learning more about nearly any topic of your choice. See something you are interested in, reach out and get some details. It is likely you can attend for free and possibly even get a carpool together for a fun, educational day on some of the most beautiful spots on UT’s campuses.
