UT Extension Internship
Allison Baugh, Knoxville, Tennessee native, is a senior at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Agriculture, Leadership, Education, and Communications (ALEC) and minoring in Plant Sciences. She is a graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School and the youngest coming from a family with much experience at the University. Her older brother was a Forestry graduate in 2016. Also, her mother, from Spring City, and father, from Chattanooga, are both UT Alums. Allison anticipates graduating as a part of the May 2018 class. She has hopes of returning to school later to obtain a Master’s Degree in Plant Sciences.
As a family, the Baugh’s run a farm in Morgan County, raising meat goats and honey bees. Allison appreciates the simplicity of being at the farm and helping with the goats. In addition to managing the farm, the family owns a bee business, Rocky Top Bee & Co. After the honey is harvested from the bees, Allison makes lip balms and candles with the wax.
The soon to be graduate, thoroughly enjoys living an active lifestyle and spending all of her free time outdoors. She recently adopted a Walker Coonhound named Juniper. She has hobbies in common with both of her parents. She and her dad share an adoration of hiking, with a goal to hike all the trails in the Smokey Mountains together. This spring she can be found at the Covenant Health Knoxville Half Marathon. With her mom, she spends time gardening and exploring plant identification. She has completed two plant id classes at UT, which influenced her minor choice.
Although, she is very cultured in visiting places like Spain and Portugal, which she plans to visit again, Allison is spending this spring semester on an internship in Union County at the UT Extension office. She will spend time exploring the field of Extension as a career, gaining experience to help her become an Agriculture or 4-H Agent. She will be leading some 4-H presentations to youth as well as working on some marketing for extension programs. The Union County Extension staff welcomes her and is looking forward to her time spent in the county.
