Union County Tai Chi for Arthritis classes upcoming

Have you heard of tai chi? Did you know that a tai chi program is offered here in Union County?
UT Extension educator, Alyshia Victoria, is certified and approved by the Tai Chi for Health Institute to teach this program. During the course, she demonstrates joint-safe exercises that help participants improve muscle strength, mobility, coordination and relaxation.
Tai Chi for Arthritis is an evidenced-based program developed by Dr. Paul Lam to reduce pain and improve your mental and physical well-being. The program uses sun-style tai chi — one of the four major recognized ancient Chinese styles of tai chi. Sun-style may be particularly effective for people with arthritis because it includes agile steps and exercises that improve mobility, breathing and relaxation. In addition, the movements have higher stances, making it easier and more comfortable to learn.
Tai Chi will help you achieve:
• Reduced pain and stiffness
• Reduced stress and depression
• Improved concentration and memory
• Improved balance and coordination
• Improved muscle strength and stamina
• Improved posture and body awareness
• Increased circulation, heart and lung function
Tai Chi is beneficial for all individuals who want to begin a joint-safe exercise program, but targets individuals who experience mild to moderate impaired joint motion and/or strength.
