Union County Students Join State 4-H Council
Tennessee All Stars was established as a recognition program for outstanding 4-H members. Before a 4-Her can become an All Star member, they have to be a member of their local Honor Club. Union County Honor Club is organized and meets monthly on the second Tuesday at the UT Extension Union County. Students, grades six through twelve, are encouraged to join and become more involved in their community through service projects, volunteering, and leadership. All Stars provide service to others through individual and cooperative efforts.
Recently, Union County has had two 4-H members elected by their peers to serve as leaders in the Tennessee State 4-H Program. Kennedy Hill was elected to serve as Eastern Region Junior State Representative and Savannah Jones was elected to serve as the Tennessee State All Star Deputy Chief, both are one year term positions. Both of the girls are Juniors at Union County High School this year and became All Stars as Freshmen. The responsibilities of these leadership roles include representing Union County and East Tennessee, serving as the official ambassadors for the 4-H organization and representing Tennessee 4-H and UT Extension at state and national level events, contests, and conferences.
Hill stated that she, "wanted to have the opportunity to give back to 4-H. I wanted to give other 4-Hers the same opportunities that past State Council Members have given me," when asked why she chose to run for office. Jones stated she chose to run, “because All Stars is my favorite part of 4-H. It is centered around service to others. I really like helping to plan for State events and State Round Up. I wanted to help 4-H grow, and I enjoy getting to meet people from across Tennessee and neighboring states who are in 4-H.” This has been a very active role for them, but they are hardworking, driven individuals who are giving their all to represent Union County well and learning life lessons on the way. Hill said, " I never thought I would be able to get up in front of people and talk. In 4-H, I’ve had the opportunities to learn. 4-H has helped me develop public speaking skills and talk in front of groups.” Congratulations to them.
