Union County Opry returns

One of Union County’s sons, Jerry Cole, third from left, plays bass guitar with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.

After a pandemic hiatus, the Union County Opry will return to it’s monthly show schedule at the Union County High auditorium. The first show was held May 1 and featured the Union County Opry Band.
Next month’s show will see Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver return to the UCO stage.
“Doyle’s first show with us in 2019 was our largest crowd ever,” says Sidney Jessee, one of the organizers of the Opry.
“Unless things change, we will still be under COVID restrictions, where we will only sell half of the seats of the 1225-seat venue.”
The Union County Opry provides scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing a degree and career in music and the organization has a long-term goal of providing the county with a dedicated event center to host music and other events.
Quicksilver’s bass player since 2018 is Jerry Cole from Sharps Chapel. His father, Jerry Sr., is a founder of the local group The Betterway Quartet.
Doyle Lawson has announced his retirement at the end of 2022 after more than 55 years as a professional musician.
Tickets for the June 12 show are now on sale at UnionCountyOpry.com.
