Union County Museum to close for flooring renovations
The Union County Museum will close to install new flooring from February 19 to March 23. The March historical meeting is canceled.
After Southern Spirit performs a variety of tunes at the Union County Historical Society Meeting on Sunday, February 18, at 2:30, the Union County Museum will close until March 24, 2024,to have new flooring and carpeting installed.
The historical society received a grant from the Tennessee State Museum to be used for building improvement and maintenance. The grant was part of the federal American Rescue Plan Appropriation that was sent to the state. Luxury vinyl tile will be installed on the first floor, but the second floor and the stairs will have carpet. The closure is needed to not only accomplish the installation but also to allow time for the volunteer staff to properly move and store the furniture and artifacts The museum will be closed from Monday, February 19 through Saturday, March 23, 2024. The plan is to re-open on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 1:00 ready to greet visitors.

Upcoming programs include the following: 1)February 18-Southern Spirit performing country melodies,2) March 17-Closed, 3)April 21-Wayne Goforth speaking on Historical Perspectives of the Indian Ambush of Peter Graves and Sharps Station, and 4)May 19-Fred Gibson presenting on Lost Creek Church and Cemetery. Union County Historical Society Meetings are held on the third Sunday of each month. During the closure of the museum, the Music Jam will continue on Tuesday from 7:00 – 9:00 at Woods Music in the Heritage Music Hall beside the Union News Leader on Maynardville Highway. The Music Jam plans to return to the museum on March 26, 2024 at 7:00.
