Union County FCE celebrates Thanksgiving
By Alyshia Victoria
Union County FCE members gathered on November 18 to celebrate thanks for one another and for our community. Family & Community Education (FCE) clubs are located across the state, and we have a great group here in Union County.
The goal of FCE clubs is to strengthen the home and community by improving the quality of life of individuals and families through continuing education, leadership development and community service.
Members gathered and accomplished quite a bit! Congratulations to Carol Pratt (President), Gloria Holcomb (Vice-President), and Leslie Sharpe (Secretary/Treasurer) who will be providing leadership to the club in 2022. Members agreed to make a donation of $200 to Union County Children’s Charity “Under the Tree.”
One of the greatest things about FCE is that they give back to our community in Union County. Whether it be through time, collections or monetary donations, FCE members give back.
Next, members enjoyed a presentation from UT Extension Family Agent, Alyshia Victoria, on how to properly preserve citrus fruit slices through dehydration. Using examples, FCE members made an ornament decoration and discussed other ornament ideas that could be done with family members throughout the holiday season. As members shared ideas and what they have created in the past, it was clear how coming together is the key to preservation. Everyone contributed delicious food and wonderful fellowship. Full of excitement for the coming year, members discussed upcoming plans for 2022.
Union County FCE meets monthly with the next meeting on December 16. There will be a secret gift exchange, sharing of favorite appetizers, and sharing of holiday traditions.
Please call 865-992-8038 or email aphill34@utk.edu to RSVP and find out more information. They also plan to have a painting class in January and February at the UT Extension Office. Anyone is welcome to participate.
Benefits include participating in monthly meetings, the opportunity to participate in regional and state events, and learning about current topics. Thank you to St. Teresa of Kolkata Catholic Church for allowing the club to use their beautiful space for this meeting.
