Under the Tree 2023 kicks off
Volunteers with Under the Tree gather for prayer before the Christmas gift distribution in 2017
It’s that time of year again for the Union County Children’s Charity annual “Under The Tree” toy campaign. This is exclusively for Union County Children ages 0-12 years of low income. Applications were sent to Union County Public Schools and Cherokee Head Starts for children living in Union County.
Trees have been put up throughout the county with ornaments on them with the children’s wishes for toys. Just pick any ornament off a tree, shop for the toys, mark the barcodes out with black marker, place in a black trash bag, and return to the place where you got it off the tree or to the UC Trustee office at the courthouse by November 27.
The date is important because the volunteers need to process and organize the toys for distribution day.
Trees are located throughout the county at these participating businesses: Food City, Janet's Hair Salon, Kelli’s Deli, Rocky Top Market, First Century Bank, Tolliver’s Market, Commercial Bank, Mission Hope and New South Credit Union.
Distribution will be on Saturday, December 2, 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Union County High School. Proper paperwork with child’s identification and acceptance letter are a requirement upon receiving toys—no exceptions.
Under the Tree receives donations and a grant from the East Tennessee Foundation Laura J. Kress Angel Tree Fund.
If you’d like to make a donation send it to Union County’s Under the Tree at P.O. Box 1033, Maynardville TN 37807.
We will serve 350-500 Union County children. Without the generous help from our community and businesses this could not be possible. We thank you for all your help putting toys under the Christmas trees on Christmas morning.
