UCBPA awards scholarships to UCHS grads
President Martin Shafer congratulated Bryson Sharp as one of three UCBPA scholarship recipients.
Bryson Sharp and Draven Vermillion were recognized for their achievements at the Union County Business and Professional Association member meeting in August at the newly renovated Plainview Community Center. Both received plaques and lunch from Subway in addition to their scholarships.
Bryson will be attending Tennessee College of Applied Technology to become certified in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). He began interning with Archer Air as part of his career and technical education at Union County High School.
Bryson received the UCBPA Career & Technical Scholarship ($1,000) and the Founders Scholarship for Service ($500). He performed more than 230 hours of community service including volunteer work through Beta Club, the UCHS Greenhouse, packing backpacks for Food for Kids, keeping score for basketball, and mentoring younger students in various academics.
Draven will be a student at Pellissippi State Community College to complete the certification in waste water management. Draven is currently employed part time with the City of Maynardville where he is learning to manage storm drains as well as other forms of waste water.
Draven also volunteers at the Union County Landfill and picks up litter along many roadways. He helps with UCBPA's Litter Pick-up on Highway 33 quarterly. Draven will be using his UCBPA Opportunity Scholarship for Merit ($500) to pay for his books.
The recipient of the UCBPA Jeffreys Memorial Academic Scholarship will be awarded to Kyla Pressnell. Miss Pressnell will be appropriately recognized at a later meeting.
Congratulations to all of the 2021 UCBPA scholarship recipients. The 2022 UCBPA scholarship applications will be available after fall break.
