UCBPA awards 2020 scholarships
Savannah Jones receives the Jeffreys Memorial Academic Scholarship from UCBPA President Martin Shafer.
Union County Business and Professional Association awarded their 2020 scholarships at a recent meeting.
Receiving the Jeffreys Memorial Academic Scholarship is Savannah Jones. Savannah is currently attending UT Knoxville and majoring in food and agricultural business. She will receive a total of $3,125 to further her education.
UCB&PA awarded the Career & Technical Scholarship to Alex Padgett. Alex is attending Pellissippi State Community College and is seeking certification in waste water management. His scholarship is for a total of $1000.
Kennedy Hill has performed over 300 hours of community service in 4H, FFA, and Beta Club, as well as mentoring and tutoring students in academics and 4H projects. For her efforts, Kennedy is the recipient of the UCB&PA Service Scholarship. She is attending UT Knoxville and majoring in agricultural communications with a minor in animal science. Her scholarship is for $500.
President Martin Shafer awarded each recipient a plaque, exquisitely designed by the Sign Guys, and UCB&PA offered a complimentary lunch at Pete's Place.
The scholarship committee interviewed applicants last winter.
Last year's live auction at the Man and Woman of the Year Banquet, along with the UCB&PA Scholarship Golf Classic at Three Ridges Golf Course in June raised the funds for the scholarship program. To date, over $110,000 in scholarships have been awarded to over 110 graduating seniors in Union County.
The 2021 UCB&PA Scholarship Applications for the academic, vocational, and service scholarships are planned for distribution during the week of October 5. The UCB&PA Board of Directors renamed the service scholarship to honor the founders, Emily Link, Mary Lee Vining, Deloris Graves, and R. Larry Smith, who was also the first president of the association.
