Calling all motorcyclists to “Ride like an Animal” in the Annual Union County Humane Society Motorcycle Ride.
This year marks the 16th annual motorcycle ride to raise funds for the humane society.
The Union County Humane Society is a no fee animal shelter for unwanted or abandoned pets. The shelter also provides a low cost spay, neuter and vaccine clinic. Alongside these services, they work closely with local law enforcement to assist in animal-related issues across the county.
Tammy Rouse, founder and executive director of the Union County Humane Society, has hopes of seeing the motorcycle rides grow in the coming years. On average, they have 40-plus bikes that enjoy the beautiful scenery of Union, Claiborne and Grainger Counties.
“We are always delighted to see our dedicated riders and to meet new folks who are joining us for the first time,” Rouse said.
Alongside the ride through the counties, they also make a stop at the UC Veterans Wall.
In order to add safety to the ride, they are escorted by the Union County Sheriff’s Department, Maynardville City Police, Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department and Grainger County Sheriff’s Department.
Last year alone, the Union County Humane Society Shelter took in 2,021 animals and has already reached 1,170 as of August 16.
The ride will be held on Saturday, September 9, with a rain date of September 23. Riders will meet and start at the animal shelter at 719 Hickory Star Rd.
While registration will begin on the day of the event at 10 a.m., riders may pre-register by visiting the website at www.UnionCountyHumaneSociety.org.
“And as always, we welcome everyone from near and far to join us for a beautiful ride in a great community to help those who cannot help themselves—our animal friends,” Rouse states.
If there are people in the community that are interested in helping the humane society but are unable to participate in the ride, there are also numerous sponsorship opportunities for business and individuals. Along with this, they are also seeking some volunteers to assist with pre-ride projects.
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the shelter at (865) 992-7969.
