UC 4-H Clover Bowl results
5th grade first place winners are Kenny Greene, McKenzie Muncey, Grayson Schreieck, and Annabella Malicoat.
On April 11, 4th and 5th graders from Maynardville, Paulette, Big Ridge, Sharps Chapel and Luttrell elementary schools gathered at Horace Maynard Middle School to compete in the Union County 4-H Clover Bowl. Each team previously won their in-school contest to qualify to represent their school in the county contest.
Clover Bowl was started in 1994 by former Wilson County 4-H agent Mitch Beaty, it is now estimated that over 10,000 4-H members compete in this contest on the county level. Clover Bowl is an all-encompassing educational contest that quizzes 4-H members on areas of 4-H, Agriculture, Life Skills, Government, Science, and Tennessee’s history, geography, and government. Participating in this contest makes 4-H members well-rounded in a variety of topics while also developing their teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.
Maynardville Elementary became our 4th Grade Clover Bowl Champions. Competing on the team was Kayden Lamberson, Brailyne Goins, Amelia Russell and Isabella Douglas.
Second place in the 4th grade division was Paulette Elementary’s team of Case Richardson, Katelyn Lane, Paisley Scarbrough and Emily Carr.
Following them in third place was Big Ridge Elementary: Ella Ryder, Gracie Hutchinson, and Autumn Potts. Next was Andrew Jones, Brianna Naylor, Willa Lewis, and Deacon Collins of Luttrell Elementary in fourth place leaving Sharps Chapel’s team of Avery Bowman, Addison Dyke, Holli Capps, and Olivia McCubbins in fifth place.
The 5th grade division consisted of two teams, one from Maynardville and one from Big Ridge. After a back and forth game, Maynardville took the lead which they held on to, making them the champions of the 5th grade division. Maynardville was represented by Annabella Malicoat, Kenny Greene, Grayson Schreieck, and McKenzie Muncey while Taylor Rowlett, Angel Jarnigan, Brylee Smith, and Abby Hill competed for Big Ridge. We would also like to recognize Ava Nix of the Paulette 5th grade team for her time and effort put into Clover Bowl.
We would like to congratulate all of the participants for representing their schools so well and for all of the hard work they put into preparing. We would also like to wish good luck to the 4th and 5th grade teams from Maynardville Elementary who will now go on to represent Union County at the Eastern Region Clover Bowl May 19 on UT’s campus.
