Team fishing with friends

Spencer Cox and Patrick Middleton with the prize catch that placed them 4th in the region.

Spencer Cox and Patrick Middleton were friends who loved to fish before they became partners to compete professionally four years ago.
The two Union County High School students placed 6th in the Bass Pro Shops competition on Cherokee Lake in October of last year and they placed 4th in the region for the 2020-2021 season.
They say they were thrilled when Bass Pro Shops set them up with the Halls High School fishing team.
“I’ve always had a passion for tournament fishing,” said Spencer, son of J.P. and Elizabeth Cox.
Patrick is the son of Wayne and Missy Middleton. “We’re grateful to be fishing with the Halls team but we’re hoping to develop a team here in Union County,” he said.
The pair recently competed in the Bass Pro Shops Championship on Douglas Lake. They finished in the top five in points and 7th in points for the year.
