A taste of Maynardville for UCBPA

Mike Chesney, Maynardville City Manager, addresses UCBPA about the new water park.

Mike Chesney, Maynardville City Manager, treated UCBPA to more than a taste of the upcoming Maynardville projects at the May meeting of the Union County Business and Professional Association.
Chesney began with a splash from the new water park, which the pandemic has delayed to 2022 with maybe a quick bite at the end of this summer. The new guardrail on SR 33 will help provide a safer experience when the park opens.
Next, he praised the quality of the police and fire departments for their excellent job overall. He said that one of the challenges of the fire department is maintaining enough firefighters in the all-volunteer force.
With no city taxes paid by citizens, there is only enough money for a paid police force. But both are comprised of dedicated individuals who work hard for the citizens.
In the main course of his presentation, Chesney announced that Maynardville has received an award for the “Best Tasting Water in Tennessee” and plans to expand this refreshing drink to many parts of Union County that have no good water source. To achieve this goal, the city is requesting to partner with the county for water and sewer expansions.
To end his presentation on a sweet note, Mike reviewed some of the housing additions that will be on the table in the near future. He commented that the water and sewer extensions would make these housing additions possible and help alleviate some of the Union County housing shortage.
Thank you to Keith and Dionne Nease of Pete's Place for hosting the May meeting and serving an outstanding lunch. Your efforts have been truly appreciated.
The next UCBPA meeting will be a virtual presentation by GRIID Infrastructure, LLC on June 8. Please check the website at www.ucbpatn.com for more information.
