Tai Chi is Coming to UC

Tai chi is a Chinese martial art practiced worldwide for health benefits, defense training, and meditation. It has been observed for centuries and is one of the oldest and best-known techniques that characterizes contrasting and complimentary movements.
If you’ve ever wondered if this form of exercise is a good fit for you, you can soon explore that option. Thanks to UT Extension and Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Extension Agent Alyshia Victoria, the method of Tai chi will soon be taught in Union County.
“We will start classes in April with a focus on Arthritis aid and fall prevention,” said Victoria. “We plan to announce the location soon.”
Classes will begin Monday, April 11 at 2 pm and will include eight sessions.
“During the sessions, we will be learning an entire series that includes warm-up stretches, eight basic movements, eight advanced movements, and a cool down,” said Victoria.
The entire cost of the series of sessions is $34 and includes access to a private Facebook group with videos and resources for participants to practice and continue in the comfort of their home.
The art form’s movements are gentle and slow, flow smoothly, and are said to help with balance and peace of mind.
A flyer will be available soon. Until then, interested parties may contact the UT Extension office at 865-992-8038 to sign up, or for more details.
