TAEP application period October 1-7
The Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program cost share program will be accepting applications October 1-7. This program, established in 2005, has helped farmers in Union County and across the state of Tennessee. More than $1.27 million has been invested in 424 producer projects from 2005 through 2023 in Union County. Each TAEP dollar generates $6.55 in local economies.
The 2024 program brings some changes. First, the application process will be completely online―no paper applications will be available. UT Extension Union County Agriculture Agent Shannon DeWitt can help with internet access and technical assistance for anyone who needs it.
DeWitt states, “We are committed to making sure anyone who qualifies for this program has the tools they need to apply online. Please reach out and we will work together to complete the application online.”
Online applications will be available as a live link (no downloading required) at the TAEP homepage (www.tn.gov/taep) during the application period (October 1-7).
The Hay Storage program has changed in that structures must be a minimum of 1200 square feet and must be a standalone center structure only. Hay Equipment is still available for farmers producing at least 100 acres of hay (first cutting only). The other popular programs include genetics and herd health and are still available. A few new additions to livestock equipment are stock trailers and rotary cutter/pasture clipper.
Union County Extension offers Master Classes to fulfill the educational requirements to participate in the TAEP Cost Share Program. In October, there will be a Master Beef Producer Certification class. Beef Quality Assurance certification is no longer required to apply for the TAEP Cost Share Program, but those classes are still offered at the Union County Extension Office.
The Union County Extension office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and is available to help folks complete their application October 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7. Appointments are available and walk-ins are also welcome. If you need accommodations outside those hours, please contact us at 865-992-8038 or shannon@tennesssee.edu
