Super Dog

We weren’t sure how she did it. If I hadn’t seen it myself, I don’t know if I would’ve believed it. Who am I talking about? Our dog Pobby. She was the one that gnawed on my bible in my story: “Eating the Word.”
She was a tiny stray puppy that we took into our home and our hearts. Before she was housebroken, we didn’t want her to go into our living room while Tim and I were at work. At that time, the living room had bifold doors, so we just closed them. The doors were difficult for us to open, so we assumed Pobby wouldn’t be able to open them either.
Wrong! When I got in from work the next day, the doors were open and Pobby was sitting in the living room like she owned the place.
We decided to close the bifold doors again for the next day, but this time we reinforced them with masking tape. Since we were planning to take the doors down anyway, we didn’t worry about messing them up. First, we taped the two doors together and then we placed tape on the bottom where the doors bent to open. Now, the doors were puppy proof.
Wrong! Just like the day before, when I got in from work, I found the doors open and Pobby waiting for me in the living room.
There was only one other option: getting a gate. You know the gates I’m talking about. They span a few feet and are used to keep dogs and small children from going into certain areas.
We taped up the doors as we had done the previous day. Then we stretched out the new gate in front of them. After we finished with our barricade, we congratulated ourselves on our ingenuity. No little puppy was going to outdo us.
Wrong! When I opened the front door that evening, I was met by the strangest sight. The bifold doors were open, but the gate was still in place. I couldn’t believe it. I trotted over to the doorway to see Pobby sitting in the living room on the other side of it. That gate was still stretched across the doorway as it had been when I left that morning.
“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Luke 11:9 (KJV)
If a determined little puppy dog can get through a barricade, then there’s nothing we can’t accomplish with the Lord’s help. We have to ask for it and seek it with all of our hearts. And most importantly, believe with all of our hearts too.
To this day, we don’t know how Pobby did it. Think about it: she managed to not only open two bifold doors that had been taped shut, but she did with a gate standing in front of them. Maybe she really was some kind of super dog. That’s better than us thinking we’re not as smart as we thought we are.
